Mission:
The Father Stanley Rother Hispanic Cultural Institute (FSR-HCI), is an Archdiocesan Institute created to help our Pastors, Deacons, lay leaders, English-speaking parishioners, and the general public learn the Spanish language and understand the Hispanic culture. FSR-HCI also focuses on providing a more informed way to face the opportunities and challenges that our nation, state and parishes are facing with the presence of the ever-increasing Spanish-speaking population. The teachings of the Catholic faith animate the vision, goals and objectives of the FSR-HCI in its work.

Vision:
Invoking the guidance of the Blessed Virgin Mary, under the title of Our Lady of Guadalupe, Empress of the Americas, the FSR-HCI wants to serve as an instrument in the celebration of the riches of our Catholic tradition in Oklahoma.

Goals:
To offer participants a vision of the real significance of the phenomenon known as la Hispanidad. The FSR- HCI will emphasize the cultural, linguistic, historical, and spiritual roots that helped form la Hispanidad, in order to clarify the context from which the Hispanic world emerged.

Methodology:
FSR-HCI will alternate theoretical classes based on theme presentations from HCI’s Participant Scholars, with practical Spanish language courses offered by HCI’s Teaching and Support Staff. HCI will also offer cultural trips in order to explore the Spanish culture and linguistic heritage.

Language Classes:
FSR-HCI will offer four Beginner, Intermediate I (some knowledge of Spanish) Intermediate II, and Advanced. At all levels, students will be able to practice conversation in Spanish and participate in the Cultural Studies (in English). There will be an oral placement test on the first day to properly place each student in the appropriate class. Classes include:

• Listening Comprehension (dialogues, songs, prayers)
• Conversation
• Vocabulary Enhancement
• Reading
• Grammar
• Writing

Cultural Studies:
FSR-HCI will emphasize the cultural, linguistic, historical, artistic, and spiritual roots that form the Hispanic World. Topics of the cultural studies will include, but are not limited to the following:

• The Hispanic World and its Cultural Roots (Iberian, Celtic, Phoenician, Greek, Roman, Visigoth, Arabic, Jew, and others)
• The Hispanic-American World and its Cultural Roots (Europeans, Indians, and Africans)
• The Beginnings of the Evangelization of America
• The Spanish Conquest: A Catholic Perspective
• Rites and Traditions
• Arts and literature
• Faith and Culture in the Hispanic World
• Our Lady of Guadalupe - History and Impact in the“New World”
• Bartolomé de las Casas, Vasco de Quiroga and the Movement toward Social Justice in America

 Requirements

• To be 21 years old
• Must turn the application and a check (made payable to St. Joseph’s Catholic Church) for the tuition fee.
• Tuition fee $50.00 per Semester 
• Donations made to St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in the name of the institute are welcomed. Donations are tax deductible.

El Instituto Cultural Hispano Padre Stanley Rother (FSR-HCI), es un Instituto Arquidiocesano creado para ayudar a nuestros pastores, diáconos, líderes laicos, feligreses de habla inglesa y al público en general para aprender el idioma español y comprender la cultura hispana. FSR-HCI también se enfoca en brindar una manera más informada de enfrentar las oportunidades y desafíos que nuestra nación, estado y parroquias enfrentan con la presencia de la creciente población de habla hispana. Las enseñanzas de la fe católica animan la visión, las metas y los objetivos de la FSR-HCI en su trabajo.  

Visión:
Invocando la guía de la Santísima Virgen María, bajo el título de Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe, Emperatriz de las Américas, la FSR-HCI quiere servir como un instrumento en la celebración de las riquezas de nuestra tradición católica en Oklahoma.

Metas:
Ofrecer a los participantes una visión del significado real del fenómeno conocido como la Hispanidad. La FSR-HCI enfatizará las raíces culturales, lingüísticas, históricas y espirituales que ayudaron a formar la Hispanidad, con el fin de aclarar el contexto del cual surgió el mundo hispano.

Metodología:

FSR-HCI alternará clases teóricas basadas en presentaciones temáticas de los becarios participantes de HCI, con cursos prácticos de español ofrecidos por el personal docente y de apoyo de HCI. HCI también ofrecerá viajes culturales para explorar la cultura española y el patrimonio lingüístico.

Clases de lenguaje:
FSR-HCI ofrecerá cuatro niveles: principiante, intermedio I (algunos conocimientos de español) intermedio II y avanzado. En todos los niveles, los estudiantes podrán practicar la conversación en español y participar en los Estudios Culturales (en inglés). Habrá una prueba de nivel oral el primer día para colocar correctamente a cada estudiante en la clase apropiada. Las clases incluyen:

• Comprensión auditiva (diálogos, canciones, oraciones)
• Conversacion
• Mejora del vocabulario
• Leer
• Gramática
• Escribir

Estudios culturales:
FSR-HCI enfatizará las raíces culturales, lingüísticas, históricas, artísticas y espirituales que forman el mundo hispano. Los temas de los estudios culturales incluirán, entre otros, los siguientes:

• El mundo hispánico y sus raíces culturales (ibérico, celta, fenicio, griego, romano, visigodo, árabe, judío y otros)
• El mundo hispanoamericano y sus raíces culturales (europeos, indios y africanos)
• Los inicios de la evangelización de América
• La conquista española: una perspectiva católica
• Ritos y tradiciones
• Artes y literatura
• Fe y cultura en el mundo hispano
• Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe - Historia e Impacto en el “Nuevo Mundo”
• Bartolomé de las Casas, Vasco de Quiroga y el Movimiento hacia la justicia social en Estados Unidos

Requisitos

• Tener 21 años
• Debe entregar la solicitud y un cheque (pagadero a la Iglesia Católica de San José) por el costo de la matrícula.
• Cuota de matrícula $50.00 por semestre 
• Se agradecen las donaciones hechas a la Iglesia Católica de San José en nombre del instituto. Las donaciones son deducibles de impuestos
