(February 27, 2022) Ash Wednesday is on March 2nd, so it is time to prepare for the season of Lent.  How will you return to the Lord with your whole heart?  We always begin Lent with the fundamentals of the spiritual life; Prayer, Fasting and Alms Giving.  Think of these in another way; relationship with God, letting go of things that keep us from relationship with God, and giving things away that are in the way of our relationship with God.  We pray, fast and give so that we can fully love and be loved by God. 

Lent is a time to fully receive the love of God.  So what is keeping you from responding to the Love of God? There are so many options of what to do for Lent.  Pray more.  Give up an attachment like coffee, social media, or fast food.  We can increase our giving, volunteer our time and live for others more than ourselves.  May God find you ready to be loved and to remain in that love.  Have a blessed Lenten Season.

Prepárate para la Cuaresma

El miércoles de ceniza es el 2 de marzo, por lo que es hora de prepararse para la temporada de Cuaresma. ¿Cómo volverás al Señor con todo tu corazón? Siempre comenzamos la Cuaresma con los fundamentos de la vida espiritual; Oración, ayuno y limosna. Piense en esto de otra manera; relación con Dios, dejando ir las cosas que nos impiden tener una relación con Dios, y desechando las cosas que se interponen en el camino de nuestra relación con Dios. Oramos, ayunamos y damos para poder amar plenamente y ser amados por Dios.

La Cuaresma es un tiempo para recibir plenamente el amor de Dios. Entonces, ¿qué te impide responder al Amor de Dios? Hay tantas opciones de qué hacer para la Cuaresma. Ora más. Renuncia a algo que te guste como el café, las redes sociales o la comida rápida. Podemos aumentar nuestras donaciones, ofrecer nuestro tiempo como voluntarios y vivir para los demás, más que para nosotros mismos. Que Dios los encuentre listos para ser amados y para permanecer en ese amor. Que tengan una bendita temporada de Cuaresma.

I write today to introduce the 2022 Annual Catholic Appeal and to ask for your continued support of this vital effort. The Annual Catholic Appeal provides financial support needed for critical shared ministries throughout our Church in central and western Oklahoma, including in our parish.

In 2021 here at Saint Joseph Parish, 170 parishioners gave to the Annual Catholic Appeal, helping raise $40,501. This represents 15% response from our registered parish households.

This year’s theme is "Blessed Are They." It comes from the Beatitudes, which unite us as one Archdiocesan family with a solitary purpose: to provide for those who hunger and thirst for spirituality, peace, mercy and food. As we are told, those of us who show mercy will receive God’s mercy in return.

This year, we focus support on: Youth, Young Adult & Campus Ministry, Formation of Permanent Deacons to serve parishes, Caring for Retired Priests, Marriage & Family Life, and service to all parishes. You can learn more at www.archokc.org/aca-stjosephnorman and watch the video there.

Every gift is important and touches someone’s life. Blessings are multiplied when all of us work together. We need your participation to reach our parish goal of $93,000.

Querido Feligrés

Escribo hoy para presentarle la Colecta Católica Anual 2022 y para pedirle su apoyo continuo a este esfuerzo vital. La Colecta Católica Anual brinda el apoyo financiero necesario para ministerios compartidos críticos en toda nuestra Iglesia en el centro y oeste de Oklahoma, incluso en nuestra parroquia.

En 2021 aquí en la Parroquia de San José, 170 feligreses donaron a la Colecta Católica Anual, ayudando a recaudar $40,501. Esto representa una respuesta del 15% de nuestros hogares parroquiales registrados.

El tema de este año es "Bienaventurados ellos". Proviene de las Bienaventuranzas, que nos unen como una sola familia arquidiocesana con un único propósito: proveer para aquellos que tienen hambre y sed de espiritualidad, paz, misericordia y alimento. (February 6, 2022) In this weekend’s Gospel, Jesus asks His Disciples to be courageous.  With trust, with joy and with the love of God, put in your nets for a catch.  This is an image of the New Evangelization.  This is a call from God to every person, go and bring people into the arms of God.  The Catholic Faith is the boat and Jesus is inviting all people to come aboard.  But, Jesus needs your hands, your words, your love for the Faith and your willingness to say these words, Come and See. Come and See Jesus.  Come to the faith.  Come to the Lord.

Don’t be Afraid to commit fully to your Catholic faith.  Live it with great excitement and joy!

Pray for the young men from our Archdiocese who are visiting the Seminary this weekend considering their possible call to the priesthood.  We need to pray earnestly for more young men to say yes to the Priesthood of Jesus.  Blessed Mother Mary, pray for us.

No tengas miedo

En el Evangelio de este fin de semana, Jesús pide a sus discípulos que sean valientes. Con confianza, con alegría y con el amor de Dios, echa tus redes para pescar. Esta es la imagen de la Nueva Evangelización. Este es el llamado de Dios para cada uno de nosotros: vayan y lleven a las personas a los brazos de Dios. La fe católica es el barco y Jesús está invitando a todos para subir a bordo. Pero, Jesús necesita tus manos, tus palabras, tu amor por la Fe y tu voluntad para decir estas palabras, Ven y observa. Ven y mira a Jesús. Ven a la fe. Ven al Señor.

No tengas miedo de comprometerte completamente con tu fe católica. ¡Vívela con mucha emoción y alegría!

Oren por los jóvenes de nuestra Arquidiócesis que están visitando el Seminario este fin de semana considerando su posible llamado al sacerdocio. Necesitamos orar fervientemente para que más jóvenes digan sí al Sacerdocio de Jesús. Santísima Madre María, ruega por nosotros.

(Jan 30, 2022) We turn to so many different truths, ideas and even religions to encounter Jesus. In the end, our Catholic faith reveals the fullness of truth from our Lord and Savior. Encounter Jesus in the truth of his love. Encounter Jesus in the Sacraments. Encounter Jesus in the deepest of prayer. Jesus is the fulfillment of our hope. He is the subject of every homily or sermon. Jesus is the one we look for in every place and time. Let Jesus show you the way to the Father. 

   This month we pray for an end to the scourge of Abortion in our country and world. The only choice that can ever make sense is Life. We pray for all mothers who are suffering and struggling with the choice of an abortion. May God bless with the courage to choose life. We pray for those suffering with the effects of abortion. May they find healing in the love of Jesus. May abortion become unthinkable. Mary, Mother of the unborn, pray for us.

Sólo Jesús sana

Acudimos a tantas verdades, ideas e incluso religiones diferentes para encontrar a Jesús. Al final, nuestra fe católica revela la plenitud de la verdad de nuestro Señor y Salvador. Encuentra a Jesús en la verdad de su amor. Encuentra a Jesús en los Sacramentos. Encuentra a Jesús en lo más profundo de la oración. Jesús es el cumplimiento de nuestra esperanza. Él es el tema de cada homilía o sermón. Jesús es el que buscamos en todo lugar y tiempo. Deja que Jesús te muestre el camino al Padre.

   Este mes oramos por el fin del flagelo del Aborto en nuestro país y en el mundo. La única elección que puede tener sentido es la Vida. Oramos por todas las madres que están sufriendo y luchando con la elección de un aborto. Que Dios las bendiga con el coraje de elegir la vida. Oramos por quienes sufren los efectos del aborto. Permíteles encontrar sanación en el amor de Jesús. Que el aborto se vuelva impensable. María, Madre de los no nacidos, ruega por nosotros.

(Jan 23, 2022) The Eucharist is not as symbol.  It is not a nice representation of Jesus.  The Eucharist is not what ever we want it to be to fit our needs.  The Eucharist is Jesus, His body and blood, soul and divinity.  When we receive Jesus in the Eucharist, we are encountering Him, not some idea of Him.  Our Catholic faith is always personal.  Our relationship with Jesus is always real.  We never receive a “what”, we receive a “who”, Jesus coming to us in the flesh. 

Why is this encounter so important for our lives?  Relationships are hard to keep.  We have to talk, listen, make time, be present to our friends, spouses, children and so on.  The work it takes to maintain our spiritual life is the same.  We have to pray, which is talking and listening. We have to take time to be with Jesus, especially at Mass.  We have to let Jesus be a part of our lives.  We have to ask him for Mercy.  Jesus is here, we have to pay attention to the Words of the Gospel, “I have come so that you might have life, and have it abundantly”.

In the Eucharist, with Jesus, we find peace.  “He who eats my flesh, and drinks my blood, has life in them and I will raise them up on the last day”.  Come to Jesus in the Eucharist.  Grow in relationship with Jesus.  Come to Confession.  Encounter Jesus in Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament.  God bless you all. Encuentro con Jesús en la Eucaristía

La Eucaristía no es un símbolo. Esto no es una buena representación de Jesús. La Eucaristía no es lo que queremos que sea para satisfacer nuestras necesidades. La Eucaristía es Jesús, Su cuerpo y sangre, alma y divinidad. Cuando recibimos a Jesús en la Eucaristía, nos encontramos con Él, no con una idea de Él. Nuestra fe católica es siempre personal. Nuestra relación con Jesús es siempre real. Nunca recibimos un “qué”, recibimos un “quién”, Jesús viniendo a nosotros en la carne.

¿Por qué es tan importante este encuentro para nuestras vidas? Las relaciones son difíciles de mantener. Tenemos que hablar, escuchar, hacer tiempo, estar presente con nuestros amigos, cónyuges, hijos, eentre otros. El trabajo que se necesita para mantener nuestra vida espiritual es el mismo. Hay que orar, que es hablar y escuchar. Tenemos que tomar tiempo para estar con Jesús, especialmente en la Misa. Tenemos que dejar que Jesús sea parte de nuestras vidas. Tenemos que pedirle misericordia. Jesús está aquí, tenemos que prestar atención a las Palabras del Evangelio, “He venido para que tengáis vida, y la tengáis en abundancia”. En la Eucaristía, con Jesús, encontramos la paz. “El que come mi carne y bebe mi sangre, tiene vida en ellos y yo los resucitaré en el último día”. Venid a Jesús en la Eucaristía. Crecer en la relación con Jesús. Ven a confesarte. Encuentro con Jesús en la Adoración del Santísimo Sacramento. Dios los bendiga a todos.

(Jan 16, 2022) This Sunday we hear the account of the Wedding Feast at Cana.  At this feast, Jesus changes the water into the “Best Wine”.  This was uncommon at a wedding feast. Usually you served the inferior wine last and the best first.  Jesus offers this gift of this wine and the gift of himself.  This Gospel shows us a glimpse into the truth of the Eternal Wedding Feast in Heaven.  This “Best Wine” is the gift of eternal life.  It is the gift of Jesus himself.  It foreshadows the sacrament of the Eucharist where Jesus gives us his body and blood to eat and drink.  Jesus promises to give this wine always.  He promises to be with us always until the end of the age.  Jesus is the wine, He is the promise of eternal life and He will show us the way to the Heavenly Father.

During Ordinary Time in the Church, we get to hear many wonderful Sunday Gospel readings.  I encourage you to read these Sunday Readings on your own.  Use them to meditate on God’s love for you and His church.  Maybe read them with your family before or after Sunday Mass.  God bless you. Fr. Irwin

El banquete de Bodas

 Este domingo escuchamos el relato de las Bodas de Caná. En esta fiesta, Jesús convierte el agua en el “Mejor Vino”. Esto era poco común en una fiesta de bodas. Por lo general, se sirve el vino inferior al final y el mejor primero. Jesús ofrece este don con este vino y el don de sí mismo. Este Evangelio nos da un vistazo a la verdad de la Fiesta de las Bodas Eternas en el Cielo. Este “Mejor Vino” es el regalo de la vida eterna. Es el don del mismo Jesús. Prefigura el sacramento de la Eucaristía donde Jesús nos da su cuerpo y su sangre para comer y beber. Jesús promete dar este vino siempre. Él promete estar con nosotros siempre hasta el final de la era. Jesús es el vino, Él es la promesa de vida eterna y Él nos mostrará el camino hacia el Padre Celestial.

Durante el Tiempo Ordinario en la Iglesia, escuchamos muchas lecturas maravillosas del Evangelio dominical. Te animo a que leas estas lecturas dominicales por tu cuenta. (Jan 9, 2022)  Jesus sanctifies the waters of Baptism.  Jesus teaches us that we must be reborn by Water and the Spirit.  Jesus reveals himself as a Trinity at His baptism; Father, Son and Holy Spirit.  At the baptism of Jesus, He begins his ministry of salvation proclaiming the truth of the Gospel. 

Our baptism is not just a symbolic gesture.  At our baptism, we are changed forever, we are claimed by God, we become children of God and we are called by God to serve Him in His church.  As we finish the Christmas Season, God invites us to say yes to our baptismal call to be Disciples of Jesus.  Follow me, Jesus says, and I will send you out into the world to proclaim truth, beauty and the Love of God.

El Bautismo del Señor

Jesús santifica las aguas del bautismo. Jesús nos enseña que debemos renacer por el Agua y el Espíritu. Jesús se revela a sí mismo como una Trinidad en su bautismo; Padre, Hijo y Espíritu Santo. En el bautismo de Jesús, comienza su ministerio de salvación proclamando la verdad del Evangelio.

Nuestro bautismo no es solo un gesto simbólico. En nuestro bautismo, somos cambiados para siempre, somos reclamados por Dios, nos convertimos en hijos de Dios y somos llamados por Dios para servirle en Su iglesia. Al terminar la temporada navideña, Dios nos invita a decir que sí a nuestro llamado bautismal a ser discípulos de Jesús. Sígueme, dice Jesús, y te enviaré al mundo para proclamar la verdad, la belleza y el amor de Dios.

(Jan 2, 2022) Happy New Year to you and your families!  On January 1st each year we celebrate a new year and the Solemnity of Mary, Mother of God.  Mary is the Mother of Jesus, Mother of the Church, Mother of God and our Mother.  We give thanks today for Mary's yes to be the Mother of God.  We ask Mary to pray for us and our parish.  We seek the face of Jesus in and through the love and prayers of Mary, our Mother. 

This Sunday we also celebrate the Epiphany of Our Lord.  The Three Kings arrive in Bethlehem to see the King of Kings, Jesus.  In this beautiful encounter, the Three Kings not only see Jesus, they are filled with the Holy Spirit.  They know that they have seen the Lord.  Let us pray this weekend that we are blessed by the Lord Jesus.  Look for him in every situation, in every suffering and in all people.  Let Jesus be your peace and your hope.  God bless you all, Fr. Epifanía y María, Madre de Dios

¡Feliz año nuevo para ustedes y sus familias! El 1 de enero de cada año celebramos un nuevo año y la solemnidad de María, Madre de Dios. María es la Madre de Jesús, Madre de la Iglesia, Madre de Dios y Madre nuestra. Hoy damos gracias por el sí de María a ser Madre de Dios. Le pedimos a María que ore por nosotros y por nuestra parroquia. Buscamos el rostro de Jesús en y a través del amor y las oraciones de María, nuestra Madre.

Este domingo también celebramos la Epifanía de Nuestro Señor. Los Reyes Magos llegan a Belén para ver al Rey de Reyes, Jesús. En este hermoso encuentro, los Reyes Magos no solo ven a Jesús, están llenos del Espíritu Santo. Saben que han visto al Señor. Oremos este fin de semana para que seamos bendecidos por el Señor Jesús. Búscalo en cada situación, en cada sufrimiento y en todas las personas. Deja que Jesús sea tu paz y tu esperanza. Dios los bendiga a todos, P. Irwin
