This weekend at the 10:30 am mass we celebrate and congratulate our 2023 Graduates here at St. Joseph Parish. 

To our graduates, may you be blessed in your life and we pray you always follow Jesus.  Stay close to the Lord and His church.  I want to thank the Woman's Club for their annual breakfast for our graduates.  Thank you, parents, for helping you son or daughter in their faith.  We hope that God shows them the path He has prepared for them in this life.

Also, congratulations to all our children who received First Holy Communion this Saturday. Receiving Jesus in the Holy Eucharist is the greatest gift from God.  God bless you all! Jesus, we trust in you. Fr. Irwin

Felicidades graduados!

Este fin de semana en la misa de las 10:30 a.m. celebramos y felicitamos a nuestros estudiantes de San José que se graduarán de Secundaria este 2023.

A nuestros graduados, pedimos que sean bendecidos en su vida y oramos para que siempre sigan a Jesús. Manténgase cerca del Señor y Su iglesia. Quiero agradecer al Club de Mujeres por su desayuno anual para nuestros graduados. Gracias, padres, por ayudar a su hijo o hija en su fe. Esperamos que Dios les muestre el camino que les ha preparado en esta vida.

Además, felicidades a todos nuestros niños que recibieron la Primera Comunión este sábado. Recibir a Jesús en la Sagrada Eucaristía es el mayor regalo de Dios. ¡Dios los bendiga a todos!

Next Saturday, May 6th, we will celebrate First Holy Communion at St. Joseph Parish.  Our children, with their parents, have been preparing all year to receive Jesus in the Sacrament of the Eucharist. 

When we receive Jesus, He shows us the beauty of His love for us and for the world.  When we receive Jesus, He conforms our heart more perfectly to His Cross and Resurrection.  Jesus says to us clearly, “Eat my flesh and Drink my blood and you will have life”.  The Eucharist is our food for the pilgrimage through life leading us to the Heavenly Father.  Say yes to Jesus who calls us to receive this Sacrament of His Body and Blood. 

Pray for our children and their parents.  Pray that they will grow close to Jesus and follow Him, serve Him and love Him.  Thank you, Itzel Duke, and to all our catechists, who have assisted in helping our children prepare for this moment of Grace and Love. Fr. Irwin

Sagrada Primera Comunión

El próximo sábado 6 de mayo celebraremos la Primera Comunión en la Parroquia San José. Nuestros niños, con sus padres, se han estado preparando todo el año para recibir a Jesús en el Sacramento de la Eucaristía.

Cuando recibimos a Jesús, Él nos muestra la belleza de Su amor por nosotros y por el mundo. Cuando recibimos a Jesús, Él conforma más perfectamente nuestro corazón a Su Cruz y Resurrección. Jesús nos dice claramente: “Comed mi carne y bebed mi sangre y tendréis vida”. La Eucaristía es nuestro alimento para el peregrinaje por la vida que nos lleva al Padre Celestial. Decir sí a Jesús que nos llama a recibir este Sacramento de Su Cuerpo y Sangre.

Oremos por nuestros hijos y sus padres. Ore para que crezcan cerca de Jesús y lo sigan, lo sirvan y lo amen. Gracias, Itzel Duke, y a todos nuestros catequistas, que han ayudado a preparar a nuestros niños para este momento de Gracia y Amor. Padre Irwin

I pray that your Easter Season is blessed and that God is granting you many graces!  This week I ask you to say a prayer for our youth here at St. Joseph who will receive the sacrament of Confirmation on Thursday, April 27th. 

We have so many youths receiving the sacrament this year, that we have to celebrate at St. Thomas More parish because our church is not large enough to accommodate the crowd.  These members of our parish family, children, parents, sponsors and with our Archbishop will gather to celebrate this great sacrament of the Holy Spirit. 

At the sacrament of Confirmation, the Archbishop says to the person, “Be sealed with the gifts of the Holy Spirit”.  These gifts strengthen Baptismal grace and assist us in answering the call of Jesus to be true Apostles in the Church.  The work of an Apostle is to go out and proclaim the Gospel to every person.  We are ambassadors for Jesus.  We are the ones who say to all, Jesus is Savior of the world.  Again, pray for our youth who are chosen by Jesus to live, serve and proclaim the Gospel of Jesus. 

I want to thank Itzel Duke, Darby Heard and all the catechists and volunteers who have helped to prepare our youth and their families for this beautiful day of grace.  May the Holy Spirit come and inspire them to be Saints in the world.

 Tercer Domingo de Pascua

¡Oro para que vuestra Semana Santa haya sido bendecida y que Dios esté concediéndote muchas gracias! Esta semana les pido que digan una oración por nuestros jóvenes aquí en San José que recibirán el sacramento de la Confirmación el jueves 27 de abril.

Tenemos tantos jóvenes recibiendo el sacramento este año que celebraremos la misa en la parroquia de St. Thomas More porque nuestra iglesia no es lo suficientemente grande para acomodar a la multitud. Los miembros de nuestra familia parroquial, niños, padres, padrinos y con nuestro Arzobispo se reunirán para celebrar este gran sacramento del Espíritu Santo.

En el sacramento de la Confirmación, el Arzobispo dice a la persona: “Sé sellado con los dones del Espíritu Santo”. Estos dones fortalecen la gracia bautismal y nos ayudan a responder al llamado de Jesús de ser verdaderos apóstoles en la Iglesia. La obra de un Apóstol es salir y anunciar el Evangelio a todo hombre. Somos embajadores de Jesús. Somos los que decimos a todos, Jesús es el Salvador del mundo. Una vez más, oren por nuestros jóvenes que son elegidos por Jesús para vivir, servir y proclamar el Evangelio de Jesús.

Quiero agradecer a Itzel Duke, Darby Heard y a todos los catequistas y voluntarios que ayudaron a preparar a nuestros jóvenes y sus familias para este hermoso día de gracia. Que el Espíritu Santo venga y los inspire a ser Santos en el mundo.

Alleluia, Alleluia, He is risen from the Dead!  We give thanks today for Cross of our Lord Jesus Christ.  We give thanks to God that Jesus has truly risen and shows us the way to the Heavenly Father.  Each year, these wonderful celebrations of the Easter Triduum guide us to encounter the truth of the Gospel, the divine mercy of Jesus and how important it is for us to know, serve and follow our Lord in this life. 

We celebrate the institution of the Holy Priesthood.  We celebrate the institution of the Holy Eucharist.  We celebrate the joy of Jesus who has conquered death and given us His Body, the Church. We celebrate the joy of our Catholic faith and give thanks to God for giving us Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord.  Jesus, we trust in you.  I pray that you all have a blessed Easter Season.  May your families, and all who gather, know the joy and love of our Risen Lord. 

We congratulate those who were received into full communion with the Catholic Church.  I want to thank all of our Liturgical Ministers, Clint Davis and our wonderful choir and all who assisted in the events of Holy Week.  We have a truly blessed and wonderful parish family.

¡Aleluya, Aleluya, ha resucitado de entre los muertos! Damos gracias hoy por la Cruz de nuestro Señor Jesucristo. Damos gracias a Dios porque Jesús verdaderamente ha resucitado y nos muestra el camino hacia el Padre Celestial. Cada año, estas maravillosas celebraciones del Triduo Pascual nos guían al encuentro con la verdad del Evangelio, la divina misericordia de Jesús y lo importante que es para nosotros conocer, servir y seguir a nuestro Señor en esta vida.

Celebramos la institución del Santo Sacerdocio. Celebramos la institución de la Sagrada Eucaristía. Celebramos la alegría de Jesús que venció la muerte y nos entregó su Cuerpo, la Iglesia. Celebramos la alegría de nuestra fe católica y damos gracias a Dios por darnos a Jesucristo, nuestro Salvador y Señor. Jesús, en ti confiamos. Rezo para que todos tengan una temporada de Pascua bendecida. Que sus familias, y todos los que se reúnan, conozcan la alegría y el amor de nuestro Señor Resucitado.

Felicitamos a quienes fueron recibidos en plena comunión con la Iglesia Católica. Each year the church invites us to meditate on the events of our Lord’s Passion, Death and Resurrection.  We always begin this Holy Week with Palm Sunday, hearing from the Gospel about Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem, his passion and his death on the cross. 

This Palm Sunday, we are called to reflect on the Lord’s sacrificial offering of himself for our salvation.  We welcomed him with open arms, but at the end of the week, we condemn Jesus to death.  Reflect this week on how well you welcome Jesus into your life.  How well do we respond to the Lord’s invitation to follow Him?  How well do we take up our crosses?  I encourage you to consider this week a kind of retreat.  Find time to pray, to meditate and to give thanks for the Cross of our Lord Jesus Christ. 

I invite you to all the Liturgies of Holy Week.  Tuesday, you are invited to join the Archbishop and all the Priests at Our Lady’s Cathedral for the Chrism Mass at 6:00pm.  Join us on Holy Thursday and Good Friday at St. Joseph for our liturgies starting at 7:00pm.  We welcome you to celebrate the Holy Saturday Vigil Mass starting at 8:30pm.  I look forward to seeing you all at our Easter Sunday celebrations at St. Joseph Parish.  God bless you all, have a blessed Holy Week.

Domingo de Ramos y Semana Santa

 Cada año la iglesia nos invita a meditar sobre los acontecimientos de la Pasión, Muerte y Resurrección de nuestro Señor. Siempre comenzamos esta Semana Santa con el Domingo de Ramos, escuchando el Evangelio sobre la entrada de Jesús en Jerusalén, su pasión y su muerte en la cruz.

Este Domingo de Ramos, estamos llamados a reflexionar sobre la ofrenda sacrificial del Señor de sí mismo por nuestra salvación. Lo recibimos con los brazos abiertos, pero al final de la semana condenamos a muerte a Jesús. Reflexiona esta semana sobre qué tan bien recibes a Jesús en tu vida. ¿Qué tan bien respondemos a la invitación del Señor de seguirlo? ¿Qué tan bien tomamos nuestras cruces?

Los animo a considerar esta semana como una especie de retiro. Encuentra tiempo para orar, meditar y dar gracias por la Cruz de nuestro Señor Jesucristo. Los invito a todas las Liturgias de la Semana Santa. El martes, está invitado a unirse al Arzobispo y a todos los Sacerdotes en la Catedral de Nuestra Señora para la Misa Crismal a las 6:00 p. m. Únase a nosotros el Jueves Santo y el Viernes Santo en St. Joseph para nuestras liturgias a partir de las 7:00 p.m. Le invitamos a celebrar la Misa de Vigilia del Sábado Santo a partir de las 8:30 p. m. As we begin the 5th Sunday of Lent, we should take a moment to evaluate and pray about how God is working in our lives.  How has God blessed you during this Lenten Season?  How will you prepare for Holy Week? 

Make these last days of Lent intentional:  go to confession, spend time in adoration, attend stations of the cross, read more scripture, and talk to Jesus in prayer.  This is a privileged time where God is saying, return to me with you whole heart. Respond to Him in trust.

Revisando la Temporada de Cuaresma

Mientras nosotros comenzamos el 5to Domingo de Cuaresma, deberíamos tomar un momento para evaluar y rezar acerca de cómo Dios está trabajando en nuestras vidas. ¿Cómo te ha bendecido Dios durante este tiempo de Cuaresma? ¿Cómo te preparaste para la Semana Santa?

Haz que estos últimos días de Cuaresma sean intencionales: vaya a la confesión, pase tiempo en adoración, asista a las estaciones de la cruz, lea más las Escrituras y hable con Jesús en oración. Este es un tiempo privilegiado donde Dios está diciendo, regresa a mí con todo tu corazón. Respóndele con confianza.

This weekend we celebrate Laetare Sunday and the Solemnity of our great patron, St. Joseph.  On March 19th each year we remember this great Saint who was asked to be the foster father of Jesus our Lord.  St. Joseph, teach us to love Jesus as you did.  I want to take a moment to thank all the members of St. Joseph parish for your support, faithfulness and love. 

This parish has a long and beautiful history of worshipping God, serving our community of Norman and helping people encounter Jesus.  May God continue to bless us and show us His will.  May we live as true missionary disciples, proclaiming to all the world the goodness of God.  Let's celebrate together our great Feast Day of St. Joseph.

Solemnidad de San José

Este fin de semana celebramos el Domingo de Laetare y la Solemnidad de nuestro gran patrón, San José. El 19 de marzo de cada año recordamos a este gran Santo a quien se le pidió ser el padre adoptivo de Jesús nuestro Señor. San José, enséñanos a amar a Jesús como lo hiciste tú. Quiero tomarme un momento para agradecer a todos los miembros de la parroquia de San José por su apoyo, fidelidad y amor.

Esta parroquia tiene una larga y hermosa historia de adoración a Dios, sirviendo a nuestra comunidad de Norman y ayudando a las personas a encontrar a Jesús. Que Dios nos siga bendiciendo y mostrando su voluntad. Que vivamos como verdaderos discípulos misioneros, proclamando a todo el mundo la bondad de Dios. Celebremos juntos nuestra gran Fiesta de San José.

The most common question at the start of Lent is, "what are you doing for Lent".  I want to propose a different question.  What will you let God do for you during Lent?

 God wants to transform your heart and mind so you can know and love Jesus.  Return to the Lord with your WHOLE heart.  You might say, Lent is the time of the year where I try to give Jesus my whole heart and not just the parts of my heart that don't hurt so bad.  Bring the tough things to Jesus. 

What sins need to be taken away? What childhood wounds need to be healed? What bad behaviors need to change?  How do you need to change your life so that Jesus has more room to dwell in your heart, mind and soul? 

Prayer, Fasting and Almsgiving; this is always the spiritual plan for Lent that helps this transformation.  Make time for prayer.  Fast from earthly pleasures.  Make a sacrificial offering to God and his church.

Primer Domingo de Cuaresma: en el desierto

 La pregunta más común al comienzo de la Cuaresma es "¿qué estás haciendo en Cuaresma?". Quiero proponer una pregunta diferente. ¿Qué dejarás que Dios haga por ti durante la Cuaresma?

Dios quiere transformar tu corazón y tu mente para que puedas conocer y amar a Jesús. Vuélvete al Señor con TODO tu corazón. Podrías decir, la Cuaresma es la época del año en la que trato de darle a Jesús todo mi corazón y no solo las partes de mi corazón que no duelen tanto. Entrega las cosas difíciles a Jesús.

¿Qué pecados deben ser quitados? ¿Qué heridas de la infancia necesitan ser sanadas? ¿Qué malos comportamientos deben cambiar? ¿Cómo necesitas cambiar tu vida para que Jesús tenga más espacio para morar en tu corazón, mente y alma?

Oración, ayuno y limosna; este es siempre el plan espiritual para la Cuaresma que ayuda a esta transformación. Haz tiempo para la oración. Ayuna de los placeres terrenales. Haz una ofrenda sacrificial a Dios y su iglesia. Vuélvete al Señor y vivirás.

The season of Lent begins this Wednesday. It is time to say to Jesus once again, "I have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God". Lent is a time for penance, for prayer, for fasting and sacrifice.  Lent is a time for turning toward Jesus.  Lent is not all about doing something, it is about receiving the mercy of Jesus and growing in perfect Trust. 

During the season of Lent, come to Confession.  We welcome you and hope you encounter the love of God in confession.  Come to Stations of the Cross.  It's so important to meditate on the Passion and Death of Jesus, our highest mystery of Faith.  Come to daily mass.  Receive Jesus in the Holy Eucharist and know the love of God. Come to Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament. Prayer with Jesus in the chapel is the best time of the day or week.  Turn your hearts and minds toward Jesus this Lent.

Arrepentirse y creer en el evangelio

 Este miércoles comienza el tiempo de Cuaresma. Es hora de decirle a Jesús una vez más: "He pecado y no merezco la gloria de Dios". La Cuaresma es un tiempo de penitencia, de oración, de ayuno y de sacrificio. La Cuaresma es un tiempo para volverse hacia Jesús. La Cuaresma no se trata solo de hacer algo, se trata de recibir la misericordia de Jesús y crecer en perfecta Confianza.

Durante la temporada de Cuaresma, ven a la Confesión. Le damos la bienvenida y esperamos que encuentre el amor de Dios en la confesión. Ven al Viacrucis. Es tan importante meditar en la Pasión y Muerte de Jesús, nuestro más alto misterio de Fe. Ven a misa diaria. Reciban a Jesús en la Sagrada Eucaristía y conozcan el amor de Dios. Ven a la Adoración del Santísimo Sacramento. La oración con Jesús en la capilla es el mejor momento del día o de la semana. Vuelvan sus corazones y mentes hacia Jesús esta Cuaresma.

This week we celebrate a true historical event.  The Archdiocese will dedicate the Shrine of Blessed Stanley Rother.  This whole week there will be events leading us to Friday the 17th, where Archbishop Coakley will consecrate the new shrine church and welcome pilgrims from all over the Archdiocese and the country.  We anticipate a great number of pilgrims visiting the shrine from all parts of Oklahoma, the United States and the world.  Blessed Stanley’s body will be enshrined in the altar of the Shrine chapel where you can go and pray, attend mass, and ask for his intercession. 

I encourage you to plan a visit to the new beautiful shrine church.  Your contributions, your prayers, your support and love has made this shrine a reality.  We give thanks to God for the existence of this Shrine church and we ask Blessed Stanley to pray for us, to bring healing and peace and that many people who visit this holy shrine will encounter the love of Jesus.

Dedicación del Santuario

 Esta semana celebramos un verdadero hecho histórico. La Arquidiócesis dedicará el Santuario del Beato Stanley Rother. Toda esta semana habrá eventos que nos llevarán al viernes 17, donde el Arzobispo Coakley consagrará la nueva iglesia Santuario y dará la bienvenida a los peregrinos de toda la Arquidiócesis y el país. Anticipamos un gran número de peregrinos que visitarán el Santuario de todas partes de Oklahoma, los Estados Unidos y el mundo. El cuerpo del Beato Stanley será consagrado en el altar de la capilla del Santuario donde puedes ir a orar, asistir a misa y pedir su intercesión.

We are truly blessed at St. Joseph parish to have perpetual adoration.  For 20 years now we have had people daily, all day, in prayer with Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament.  It has been a true blessing and great act of love to have perpetual adoration for so many years. To all who have made the commitment over the years to be present at adoration, we are truly grateful.  

Thank you to our coordinators of adoration. Thank you to the people to started adoration 20 years ago.  Thank you to all who commit to one hour of adoration each week.  Every time we pray with Jesus in adoration, we say to God, I trust in you, Jesus I love you.  May we have 20 more years of adoring Jesus at St. Joseph parish.

20 años adorando a Jesús

 Somos verdaderamente bendecidos en la parroquia de San José por tener adoración perpetua. Desde hace 20 años tenemos personas diariamente, todo el día, en oración con Jesús en el Santísimo Sacramento. Ha sido una verdadera bendición y un gran acto de amor tener adoración perpetua durante tantos años. A todos los que se han comprometido a lo largo de los años a estar presentes en la adoración, estamos verdaderamente agradecidos.

Gracias a nuestros coordinadores de adoración. Gracias a las personas que comenzaron la adoración hace 20 años. Gracias a todos los que se comprometen a una hora de adoración cada semana. Cada vez que rezamos con Jesús en adoración, decimos a Dios, en ti confío, Jesús te amo. Que tengamos 20 años más de adoración a Jesús en la parroquia de San José.

From Lumen Gentium 40, Vatican II Document on the Church’s call to Holiness

40. The Lord Jesus, the divine Teacher and Model of all perfection, preached holiness of life to each and everyone of His disciples of every condition. He Himself stands as the author and consumator of this holiness of life: “Be you therefore perfect, even as your heavenly Father is perfect” (Mat. 5: 48).  Indeed He sent the Holy Spirit upon all men that He might move them inwardly to love God with their whole heart and their whole soul, with all their mind and all their strength (217) and that they might love each other as Christ loves them.  (218)

 Todas estamos llamados a la Santidad

40. El Señor Jesús, divino Maestro y Modelo de toda perfección, predicó la santidad de vida a todos y cada uno de sus discípulos de toda condición. Él mismo se erige como autor y consumador de esta santidad de vida: “Sed, pues, vosotros perfectos, como vuestro Padre celestial es perfecto” (Mt 5, 48). En efecto, envió el Espíritu Santo sobre todos los hombres para que los moviera interiormente a amar a Dios con todo el corazón y con toda el alma, con toda la mente y con todas las fuerzas (217) y para que se amaran unos a otros como Cristo los ama a ellos. (218)

I have encountered many young married adults who have either recently discovered they are expecting a baby or they just gave birth to a new born child.  One thing that is consistent with these parents, they all have first pictures, often times framed on the walls of their homes, of the ultra sound that proved they were expecting. These framed Ultrasound Pictures of our unborn children are normal in today’s world.  It is no more a question of whether this is a human person in the womb.  That child in their mother’s womb is alive, growing, feeling and developing into the human they were created to be.  Abortion is not a right, it is simply a death.  

Abortion is killing a innocent human life.  Human life, from conception to natural death, is sacred.  Pope Benedict XVI exclaimed this about the right to live, “The fundamental human right, the presupposition of every other right, is the right to life itself. This is true of life from the moment of conception until its natural end. Abortion, consequently, cannot be a human right—it is the very opposite”.

We must defend life at all stages, this is a consistent teaching of our Church.  In the womb and out of the womb.  May God continue to show us the path out of a culture of death, that is, in and through the person of Jesus to teaches us, “I have come so that you might have life, and have it abundantly”.  

Pro-Vida, desde la Concepción hasta la Muerte Natural

 Me he encontrado con muchos adultos jóvenes casados que han descubierto recientemente que están esperando un bebé o que acaban de dar a luz a un niño. Una cosa que coincide con estos padres es que todos tienen las primeras imágenes, muchas veces enmarcadas en las paredes de sus casas, del ultrasonido que demostró que estaban esperando. Estas imágenes de nuestros niños por nacer son normales en el mundo de hoy. Ya no se trata de si es una persona humana en el útero. Ese niño en el vientre de su madre está vivo, creciendo, sintiendo y desarrollándose hasta convertirse en el ser humano para el que fueron creados.

El aborto no es un derecho, es simplemente una muerte. El aborto es matar una vida humana inocente. La vida humana, desde la concepción hasta la muerte natural, es sagrada. El Papa Benedicto XVI exclamó esto sobre el derecho a vivir: “El derecho humano fundamental, la premisa de cualquier otro derechos, es el derecho a la vida misma. Esto es cierto para la vida desde el momento de la concepción hasta su final natural. El aborto, en consecuencia, no puede ser un derecho humano, es todo lo contrario”.

Debemos defender la vida en todas sus etapas, esta es una enseñanza constante de nuestra Iglesia. En el útero y fuera del útero. Que Dios nos siga mostrando el camino para salir de una cultura de muerte, es decir, en y por la persona de Jesús para enseñarnos: “Yo he venido para que tengáis vida, y la tengáis en abundancia”.

For many in the Church, the sudden resignation of Pope Benedict XVI was difficult to accept.  He had been succeeding in many areas of church life, building bridges with the world religions, the lost and forsaken and those in the margins of society.  He was loved by many and it was hard to see him retire and take on a different role in the life of the Church.  This new role is what I want to reflect on today.  He chose to take on a role that he described as hidden, contemplative and focused on prayer to and with Jesus for the Church.  Pope Benedict XVI undoubtedly left a lasting mark on the world with his writings, preaching and his holiness.  In the years following his resignation, he left a new indelible mark on the world.  His prayers were, and are now, more important than ever.  I appreciate the way he embraced his role as silent protector of the Church. A life of solitude that gave us an opportunity to pause and think about our own life with Jesus.  I intend to ask Pope Benedict to teach me this form of quiet trust in the Lord Jesus.  

Let us pray for the repose of the soul of Pope Benedict XVI, may he Rest In Peace.

Reflexiones sobre la muerte del Papa Benedicto XVI

 Para muchos en la Iglesia, la repentina renuncia del Papa Benedicto XVI fue difícil de aceptar. Había tenido éxito en muchas áreas de la vida de la iglesia, construyendo puentes con las religiones del mundo, los perdidos y abandonados y aquellos en los márgenes de la sociedad. Fue amado por muchos y fue difícil verlo retirarse y asumir un papel diferente en la vida de la Iglesia. Este nuevo rol es lo que quiero reflexionar hoy. Eligió asumir un papel que describió como oculto, contemplativo y centrado en la oración a y con Jesús por la Iglesia. Sin duda, el Papa Benedicto XVI dejó una huella duradera en el mundo con sus escritos, su predicación y su santidad. En los años posteriores a su renuncia, dejó una nueva huella imborrable en el mundo. Sus oraciones fueron, y son ahora, más importantes que nunca. Aprecio la forma en que asumió su papel como protector silencioso de la Iglesia. Una vida de soledad que nos dio la oportunidad de hacer una pausa y pensar en nuestra propia vida con Jesús. Tengo la intención de pedirle al Papa Benedicto que me enseñe esta forma de confianza tranquila en el Señor Jesús.

Oremos por el descanso del alma del Papa Benedicto XVI, que en Paz Descanse.

This Sunday we celebrate the arrival of the Magi and the call of God to turn toward not only Bethlehem, but toward the Kingdom of God.  We commemorate the celebration of a Kingdom that is not of this world. 

Jesus is King, Lord and Savior of the world.  When we encounter Jesus in a way that changes our lives, we must go a different way.  We must walk in the way of a disciple.  We must proclaim Jesus to the world. 

Let us pray for peace, for truth and for trust in Jesus that it may grow and be proclaimed to our world.

Epifanía de nuestro Señor

 Este domingo celebramos la llegada de los Reyes Magos y el llamado de Dios a volvernos no solo hacia Belén, sino hacia el Reino de Dios. Conmemoramos la celebración de un Reino que no es de este mundo.

Jesús es Rey, Señor y Salvador del mundo. Cuando nos encontramos con Jesús de una manera que cambia nuestras vidas, debemos ir por un camino diferente. Debemos andar en el camino de un discípulo. Debemos proclamar a Jesús al mundo.

Oremos por la paz, por la verdad y por la confianza en Jesús para que crezca y sea proclamada a nuestro mundo.

Happy New Year!

It is a joyous day to celebrate the beginning of a new year with the prayers and love of Mary, the Mother of God and our Mother. This Solemnity teaches us that Mary, at the moment she said, “behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord, let it be done to me according to your word”, became the Mother of Jesus, Mother of the Church and Mother of God. Our devotion to Mary always leads us to Jesus her Son.

Mary’s prayers are powerful and motherly. Jesus chooses to listen to her prayers because she is His mother. Mary chooses to bring all our prayers to Jesus and teaches us a valuable lesson of faith, “Do whatever Jesus tells you”. Blessed Mother Mary, teach us to do the Will of Jesus every day of our lives.

May you have a blessed new year! Mary, Mother of God, pray for us!

Solemnidad de María, Madre de Dios

 ¡Feliz año nuevo!

Es un día de alegría para celebrar el comienzo de un nuevo año con las oraciones y el amor de María, la Madre de Dios y Madre nuestra. Esta solemnidad nos enseña que María, en el momento en que dijo: “he aquí la esclava del Señor, hágase en mí según tu palabra”, se convirtió en Madre de Jesús, Madre de la Iglesia y Madre de Dios. Nuestra devoción a María nos lleva siempre a Jesús su Hijo.

Las oraciones de María son poderosas y maternales. Jesús elige escuchar sus oraciones porque ella es su madre. María elige llevar todas nuestras oraciones a Jesús y nos enseña una valiosa lección de fe, “Haced lo que Jesús os diga”. Santísima Madre María, enséñanos a hacer la Voluntad de Jesús todos los días de nuestra vida.

¡Que tengas un bendecido año nuevo! ¡María, Madre de Dios, ruega por nosotros!

This Solemnity of the birth of our Savior is often forgotten in a world that cares more about self.  Christmas should be less about what we get and more about how we can make our lives an offering of love. 

We should consider questions like; how can we be servants of others, caring for others salvation and showing others the truth of Jesus Christ?  We have so many blessings in our lives; family, friends and this parish community.  As you celebrate this great Solemnity of Christmas, turn to Jesus in thanksgiving.  I pray that all of you have a blessed Christmas season. 

Celebrate the whole season of Christmas!  Today a Savior is born for us, Jesus Christ Our Lord!  Glory to God in the Highest!

Solemnidad de Navidad

 De parte del Padre Miller, de los diáconos, del personal y voluntarios de la parroquia San José, quiero desearles a todos ustedes una Feliz Navidad.

Esta solemnidad del nacimiento de nuestro Salvador a menudo se olvida en un mundo que se preocupa más por sí mismo. La Navidad debe tratarse menos de lo que recibimos y más de cómo podemos hacer de nuestras vidas una ofrenda de amor.

Deberíamos considerar algunas preguntas; ¿Cómo podemos ser servidores de los demás, cuidando de la salvación de los demás y mostrando a los demás la verdad de Jesucristo? Tenemos tantas bendiciones en nuestras vidas; familia, amigos y esta comunidad parroquial. Al celebrar esta gran Solemnidad de Navidad, vuélvanse a Jesús en acción de gracias. Rezo para que todos ustedes tengan una bendita temporada navideña.

¡Celebra toda la temporada de Navidad! ¡Hoy nos ha nacido un Salvador, Jesucristo Nuestro Señor! ¡Gloria a Dios en lo más alto!

As we finish the Advent Season, we want to remember to turn our hearts and minds to the love of God.  This time of year, is terribly commercial.  We can get greedy and focused on what we want instead of the Will of God for our lives. 

We should turn our hearts and minds toward Bethlehem where Jesus was born.  We should consider the poverty and simplicity of where Jesus was born.  We should remember the message of Christmas, today a Savior is born for us, Christ the Lord. 

Spend time in prayer this week!  Pray with your family this week!  Give thanks to God for your life, your family, your friends, and all that is good, holy, true and beautiful.

Preparándonos en oración para la Navidad

 En tanto terminamos la temporada de Adviento, nosotros queremos recordar dirigir nuestros corazones y mentes hacia el amor de Dios. Este tiempo del año es terriblemente comercial. Podemos volvernos codiciosos y enfocarnos en lo que queremos en lugar de la Voluntad de Dios para nuestras vidas.

Debemos volver nuestros corazones y mentes hacia Belén, donde nació Jesús. Debemos considerar la pobreza y la sencillez del lugar donde nació Jesús. Debemos recordar el mensaje de Navidad, hoy ha nacido un Salvador, Cristo el Señor.

¡Pase tiempo en oración esta semana! ¡Ora con tu familia esta semana! Da gracias a Dios por tu vida, tu familia, tus amigos y todo lo que es bueno, santo, verdadero y hermoso.
