Happy Easter, Alleluia, Praise be Jesus Christ Risen from the Dead!  On behalf of Fr. Lawrence, the entire parish staff of St. Joseph and myself, Fr. Irwin, Happy Easter!  Jesus is Risen, He has truly Risen! 

I want to welcome you to St. Joseph Parish if you are visiting or returning today for our Easter celebrations.  It is a joy to have you here to worship at the Holy Mass.  You might notice some things in the Sanctuary today.  One of the visible symbols is the Easter Candle.  This candle was blessed last evening at the Solemn Vigil Service.  This candle represents the Light of Christ burning in the hearts of all believers.  Today we turn our whole heart, mind, soul and strength to this light and the power of Jesus and His eternal love.  As pastor, know of my prayers for you today and we pray that God’s divine mercy will rest upon you, bring you reconciliation with His Church and guide you to Heaven.  A special welcome to our New Catholics who were received last evening through the Sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation and the Eucharist.  Please pray for the many baptisms, confirmations and first communions we have planned for the coming weeks.  May God’s blessing be with us all!  Jesus, we trust in you!

Felices Pascuas, Aleluya, ¡Alabado sea Jesucristo resucitado! En nombre del Padre Lawrence, de todo el personal de la parroquia de San José y del Padre Irwin, ¡Felices Pascuas! ¡Jesús ha resucitado, verdaderamente ha resucitado!

Les doy la bienvenida a la Parroquia de San José si nos visitan o regresan hoy para nuestras celebraciones de Pascua. Es un placer tenerlos aquí para la Santa Misa. Quizás noten algunas cosas en el Santuario hoy. Uno de los símbolos visibles es el Cirio Pascual. Este cirio fue bendecido anoche en la Vigilia Solemne. Este cirio representa la Luz de Cristo que arde en los corazones de todos los creyentes. Hoy volvemos todo nuestro corazón, mente, alma y fuerzas a esta luz y al poder de Jesús y su amor eterno. Como párroco, sepan que rezo por ustedes hoy y oramos para que la divina misericordia de Dios los acompañe, los reconcilie con su Iglesia y los guíe al Cielo. Una bienvenida especial a nuestros nuevos católicos que recibieron anoche los sacramentos del Bautismo, la Confirmación y la Eucaristía. Les pedimos que oren por los numerosos bautizos, confirmaciones y primeras comuniones que tenemos planeados para las próximas semanas. ¡Que la bendición de Dios nos acompañe a todos! ¡Jesús, confiamos en ti!    

Today we begin the holiest week of the year for us in the Catholic Church.  In our prayers and liturgies, we walk with Jesus from Jerusalem to Calvary to the Cross to the Resurrection.  The Passion, Death and Resurrection of Jesus is our story of salvation.  Take time to pray each day of Holy Week, preparing your hearts and minds to encounter the Living God.  Come to Confession!  Pray with the daily scriptures!  Come to Holy Thursday, Good Friday and Easter Vigil Services!  Walk with Jesus and trust that He will be with you.  Say a prayer for our Elect of God who will be received into the Catholic Church through the Sacraments of Initiation.  We welcome our new Catholic members into the family of God.  Here are their names, Pray For Them:  Scott Barger, Amber Berroth, Greg Bratcher, Donald Gannon, Linda Hickerson, Steven Kawaykla, Cassie Lewis, William Odenthal, Sean Richards, Christopher Stanfield, Crystal Stasyszen & Sally Wade.

This week on April 10 our parish children will receive the sacrament of Confirmation.  We welcome Archbishop Coakley to St. Joseph parish to administer the sacrament.  I ask you to pray for our children that they know the power of the Holy Spirit in their lives.  Come Holy Spirit, enliven their hearts and help to always follow Jesus in His Church.

The fourth Sunday of Lent is always known as Laetare Sunday.  The meaning of the word 'laetare' is Rejoice.  We rejoice in our God who loves us and gives us life.  This is the halfway point of our Lenten journey and a good time to focus on our spiritual life.  Prayer, Fasting Almsgiving; have you encountered the Lord and his merciful love?  Lent invites us to slow down and seek the love of Jesus.  Take advantage of this spiritual journey through Lent. Let us rejoice in the goodness of God.

El cuarto domingo de Cuaresma se conoce como Domingo Laetare. La palabra "laetare" significa "Alégrate". Nos regocijamos en nuestro Dios que nos ama y nos da vida. Este es el punto medio de nuestro camino cuaresmal y un buen momento para centrarnos en nuestra vida espiritual. Oración, ayuno, limosna: ¿has encontrado al Señor y su amor misericordioso? La Cuaresma nos invita a detenernos y a buscar el amor de Jesús. Aprovecha este camino espiritual durante la Cuaresma. Regocijémonos en la bondad de Dios.

The First invitation is to the second half of Lent.  Have you been taking your Lenten Days seriously?  Are you Fasting, Praying and Giving Alms?  Are you growing closer to Jesus through your acts of Penance?  Have you made a good confession during the Season of Lent?  Don’t give up on this season of Grace and Mercy.  God is with you.  God loves you.  If you have given up on whatever you wanted to do for Lent, start again.  The invitation today really is this, start again if you need to and take the rest of this time of Lent seriously.  Jesus, we trust in you.

The Second Invitation is for everyone who has not yet made a gift to the Annual Catholic Appeal.  We have raised over 60% of our goal.  We need to reach $75,000 to achieve this important goal for our parish and for the Mission of our Archdiocese to Go Make Disciples.  Please, be a part of this important mission of the Church.  Donate Today!

La primera invitación es para la segunda mitad de la Cuaresma. ¿Han tomado en serio sus días de Cuaresma? ¿Ayunan, oran y dan limosna? ¿Se están acercando a Jesús a través de sus actos de penitencia? ¿Han hecho una buena confesión durante la Cuaresma? No desistan de este tiempo de Gracia y Misericordia. Dios está con ustedes. Dios los ama. Si han renunciado a lo que querían hacer durante la Cuaresma, comiencen de nuevo. From Pope Francis, “We often focus on so many urgent but unnecessary things. We occupy and preoccupy ourselves with so many secondary realities. And perhaps without even recognizing it, we neglect what counts the most and we allow our love for God to grow cold, to grow cold bit by bit.  Jesus offers us the remedy to rekindle a tepid faith. And what is the remedy? Prayer. Yes, prayer is the medicine for faith, it is the restorative of the soul.”

Don’t ask yourself if you will pray today.  Ask yourself when you will pray.  Each day, make time to converse with the God of the Universe.  Jesus loves you.

Papa Francisco: “Con frecuencia nos concentramos en tantas cosas urgentes pero innecesarias. Nos ocupamos y preocupamos de tantas realidades secundarias. Y quizás sin darnos cuenta, descuidamos lo que más importa y dejamos que nuestro amor a Dios se enfríe, se enfríe poco a poco. Jesús nos ofrece el remedio para reavivar una fe tibia. ¿Y cuál es el remedio? La oración. Sí, la oración es la medicina de la fe, es el remedio del alma”.

No te preguntes si rezarás hoy. Pregúntate cuándo rezarás. Cada día, tómate un tiempo para conversar con el Dios del universo. Jesús te ama.

St. John Paul II helped us understand the power of the people of God within the mission of the Church.  We are called to love and help people know the love of God.  He said this, "Lent is a time of truth, which, as in the case of the Good Samaritan, makes us pause, recognize our brothers and sisters, and put our time and possessions at their service in daily sharing. The Good Samaritan is the Church! The Good Samaritan is every man and woman! By calling! By duty! The Good Samaritan lives charity ... Let us examine ourselves sincerely, honestly and simply. Our brothers and sisters are there among the poor, the sick, the outcast, the aged. What sort of love do we have? What sort of truth?".

These days of Lent call us to ask these spiritual questions and guide us toward to true love of neighbor.  Pray for a lasting and divine love to be proclaimed to the world.

Primer Domingo de Cuaresma

San Juan Pablo II nos ayudó a comprender el poder del pueblo de Dios en la misión de la Iglesia. Estamos llamados a amar y ayudar a la gente a conocer el amor de Dios. Decía: "La Cuaresma es un tiempo de verdad que, como en el caso del Buen Samaritano, nos hace detenernos, reconocer a nuestros hermanos y hermanas, y poner nuestro tiempo y bienes a su servicio en el compartir diario. ¡El Buen Samaritano es la Iglesia! ¡El Buen Samaritano es cada hombre y cada mujer! ¡Por vocación! ¡Por deber! El Buen Samaritano vive la caridad... Examinémonos sinceramente, honestamente y con sencillez. Nuestros hermanos y hermanas están ahí entre los pobres, los enfermos, los marginados, los ancianos. ¿Qué clase de amor tenemos? ¿Qué clase de verdad?".

Estos días de Cuaresma nos llaman a hacernos estas preguntas espirituales y nos guían hacia el verdadero amor al prójimo. Oremos para que un amor duradero y divino sea proclamado al mundo.                

This Wednesday is the beginning of the penitential season of Lent.  I invite you to come to mass on Ash Wednesday to hear the annual call to Prayer, Fasting and Alms Giving. This is a time of spiritual discipline.  It is a time to take away the things that keep you in Sin.  I encourage you to do what is necessary to grow closer to the merciful love of Jesus during this beautiful and challenging time of Lent.  Jesus is with us.  Jesus loves us.  Jesus invites us to embrace His Cross and say to Him, I Trust In You.  I also invite you to join us on Fridays during Lent in the chapel for Stations of the Cross.  Meditation on the Passion, Death and Resurrection of Jesus is central to our Catholic faith.  Turn your eyes toward the Cross of Jesus.  God bless you.

Comienza la Cuaresma con Jesús

Este miércoles es el comienzo de la temporada penitencial de Cuaresma. Te invito a venir a la misa del Miércoles de Ceniza para escuchar el llamado anual a la Oración, el Ayuno y la Limosna. Este es un tiempo de disciplina espiritual. Es un tiempo para quitar las cosas que te mantienen en el Pecado. Te animo a hacer lo que sea necesario para acercarte más al amor misericordioso de Jesús durante este hermoso y desafiante tiempo de Cuaresma. Jesús está con nosotros. Jesús nos ama. Jesús nos invita a abrazar Su Cruz y decirle: Confío en Ti. También te invito a unirte a nosotros los viernes durante la Cuaresma en la capilla para el Vía Crucis. La meditación sobre la Pasión, Muerte y Resurrección de Jesús es central para nuestra fe católica. Dirige tu mirada hacia la Cruz de Jesús. Dios te bendiga.                                                                 

Faith in Action!  This is the theme for this years ACA.  How do you put your faith in action each day?  In prayer?  In your worship at Mass?  In your volunteering for parish ministries?  Maybe you are a lector, communion minister or altar server?  Maybe you have invited someone recently to believe in the love of Jesus.  Faith is always active because in invites us into a lasting relationship with God.

Every year our Archdiocese invites us to donate to the Annual Catholic Appeal.  Each parish is given a goal of how much to raise for the Annual Appeal.  This year the Archdiocesan Goal is 4,500,000 dollars.  For St. Joseph Catholic Church, our parish goal is 75,000 dollars.  As your pastor, I ask that every parishioner contribute to this ACA goal for our parish. 

Our money goes to many ministries, departments, apostolates and the day to day workings of the Archdiocese.  Giving to the ACA helps us to be good stewards of the work not only in our parish but in Catholic Church of Oklahoma.  It serves our Youth, our Priests, our Seminarians, our work to build better Marriages, our Liturgical life, our Tribunal, our many devoted employees of the Archdiocese and the efforts to Make Disciples who know and serve our Lord.  Let’s Work To Accomplish Our Parish Goal = $75,000!  Next week we will make our commitment to the ACA.  Pray with me and for the work of our Archdiocese.

Cada año, nuestra Arquidiócesis nos invita a donar a la Campaña Católica Anual. A cada parroquia se le asigna una meta de cuánto recaudar para la Campaña Anual. Este año, la meta de la Arquidiócesis es de 4.500.000 dólares. Para la Iglesia Católica de San José, nuestra meta parroquial es de 75.000 dólares. Como su pastor, pido que cada feligrés contribuya a esta meta de la Campaña Anual para nuestra parroquia.

Nuestro dinero se destina a muchos ministerios, departamentos, apostolados y al trabajo diario de la Arquidiócesis. Donar a la Campaña Anual nos ayuda a ser buenos administradores del trabajo no solo en nuestra parroquia sino en la Iglesia Católica de Oklahoma. Today we celebrate the Presentation of Jesus in the temple.  Jesus comes to the place of worship to become the object of worship. When we come to mass on Sundays, we too present our lives, our faith and our desire to proclaim the Gospel of Jesus.  Let us light our candles and let the love of the Lord guide us.

This weekend we begin our announcements of the Annual Catholic Appeal.  I want to strongly encourage you to participate in this important financial appeal.  We are members of the larger Archdiocesan mission to make Disciples of all nations.  Pray about your annual donation to the ACA.  Thank you!

La Presentación del Señor

Hoy celebramos la Presentación de Jesús en el templo. Jesús viene al lugar de culto para convertirse en objeto de adoración. Cuando venimos a misa los domingos, también nosotros presentamos nuestras vidas, nuestra fe y nuestro deseo de proclamar el Evangelio de Jesús. Encendamos nuestras velas y dejemos que el amor del Señor nos guíe.

Este fin de semana comenzamos nuestros anuncios de la Campaña Católica Anual. Quiero animarles encarecidamente a participar en esta importante campaña financiera. Somos miembros de la misión más amplia de la Arquidiócesis de hacer discípulos de todas las naciones. Oremos por su donación anual a la ACA. ¡Gracias!                                                     

Be Disciples of Mercy

When we encounter someone who is homeless, or someone who is sick, or a family member who makes us angry or the neighbor who is annoying you, we should pay attention to our thoughts and feelings.  We encounter Jesus in so many ways every day.  He invites us to forgive, to listen, to live in imitation of His divine will.  Our Lord is reaching deep into our hardened hearts to say clearly, the greatest of all choices is Love.  Choose to offer the Divine Mercy of God.

In the coming weeks we will begin our ACA appeal.  Please consider giving generously to our Annual Catholic Appeal for the Archdiocese.  It is important for us to be part of the larger mission of the Church through our Archdiocesan programs, ministries and apostolates.  What we give toward this mission will bring many graces upon our own lives and help us stay close to the heart and mission of our Lord.  Jesus, we place all our hope and trust in you.

Sean discípulos de la misericordia

Cuando nos encontramos con alguien que no tiene hogar, o alguien que está enfermo, o un miembro de la familia que nos hace enojar o el vecino que nos molesta, debemos prestar atención a nuestros pensamientos y sentimientos. Nos encontramos con Jesús de muchas maneras todos los días. Él nos invita a perdonar, a escuchar, a vivir imitando su voluntad divina. Nuestro Señor está llegando a lo profundo de nuestros corazones endurecidos para decirnos claramente: la mayor de todas las opciones es el amor. Elijan ofrecer la Divina Misericordia de Dios.

En las próximas semanas comenzaremos nuestra campaña ACA. Por favor, consideren donar generosamente a nuestra Campaña Católica Anual para la Arquidiócesis. St. John Paul II called for the world to be unconditionally prop life, from the child in the womb, to those dying in the streets, and to those who are at the end of their lives.  To uphold the dignity of every human life is our belief, especially we who have been created in God's image and likeness.  Jesus has loved is with and everlasting love and calls us to offer that same love to the world.  Pray this week for those who will attend the March for Life in Washington DC.  We pray for an end to abortion and to all that destroys the dignity of human life.  Jesus, we trust in you.

Incondicionalmente Pro Vida

San Juan Pablo II hizo un llamado para que el mundo apoye incondicionalmente la vida, desde el niño en el vientre materno, hasta los que mueren en las calles y los que están al final de sus vidas. Defender la dignidad de cada vida humana es nuestra creencia, especialmente la de nosotros que hemos sido creados a imagen y semejanza de Dios. Jesús nos ha amado con amor eterno y nos llama a ofrecer ese mismo amor al mundo. Oremos esta semana por quienes asistirán a la Marcha por la Vida en Washington DC. Oramos por el fin del aborto y de todo lo que destruye la dignidad de la vida humana. Jesús, confiamos en ti.

Fiesta del Bautismo de nuestro Señor

 En esta fiesta del Bautismo de Jesús en el Jordán, contemplamos el poder de la promesa de vida eterna de Jesús. Nuestro bautismo en Jesucristo y en su Iglesia nos muestra nuestra misión. Es una misión de confianza y misericordia. Pide hoy al Señor que te ayude a responder al llamado de tu bautismo para ir y proclamar el Evangelio. ¡La paz sea con todos ustedes!

Epiphany in Greek means “manifestation”. In the West, the visit of the Magi is celebrated as the event through which the Lord was “manifested” to the pagans and, therefore, to the world. In the Eastern Church, the accent for this solemnity is on the Trinitarian “manifestation” during the Baptism of Jesus in the River Jordan.

While what is central on Christmas is the birth of the Child Jesus, on Epiphany, what is highlighted is that this poor and vulnerable Child is King and Messiah, the Lord of all the earth. With Epiphany, Isaiah’s prophecy is fulfilled, as can be discerned through the first reading: “Rise up in splendor, Jerusalem! Your light has come” (Is. 60:1ff). It’s as if the liturgy is saying – don’t cut yourselves off, don’t give up, don’t be demoralized, react, “lift up your eyes”! Like the Magi, observe “the star” and you will find Jesus.

Epifanía del Señor

 Epifanía en griego significa “manifestación”. En Occidente se celebra la visita de los Magos como el acontecimiento a través del cual el Señor se “manifestó” a los paganos y, por tanto, al mundo. En la Iglesia oriental, el acento de esta solemnidad está puesto en la “manifestación” trinitaria durante el Bautismo de Jesús en el río Jordán.

Si lo central en la Navidad es el nacimiento del Niño Jesús, en la Epifanía se pone de relieve que este Niño pobre y vulnerable es Rey y Mesías, Señor de toda la tierra. Con la Epifanía se cumple la profecía de Isaías, como se puede discernir a través de la primera lectura: “Levántate radiante, Jerusalén, ha llegado tu luz” (Is 60,1ss). Es como si la liturgia dijera: no os aisléis, no os rindáis, no os desmoralicéis, reaccionad, “alzad los ojos”. Como los Magos, observad “la estrella” y encontraréis a Jesús.

Happy New Year!  On Wednesday we celebrate another year around the globe and begin as always, asking for the prayers of our Blessed Mother, Mary.  She was asked to be the Mother of Jesus, Mother of the Church and Mother of God.  Trusting in the eternal vocation planned for her from the moment of her own existence, she said yes to God.  She specifically said, “Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord, let it be done to me according to your will”. 

On January 1st, the church invites us to gather around the sacred altar, to celebrate the Holy Mass and to call upon the prayers of Mary for our parish, our Archdiocese and for the world.  Start the year off with prayer, worship, receiving the Holy Eucharist and saying to Mary, our Mother, ‘Pray for Us’.

Solemnidad de Maria, Madre de Dios 

¡Feliz Año Nuevo! El miércoles celebramos otro año en todo el mundo y comenzamos como siempre pidiendo las oraciones de nuestra Santísima Madre, María. A ella se le pidió ser la Madre de Jesús, Madre de la Iglesia y Madre de Dios. Confiando en la vocación eterna planeada para ella desde el momento de su propia existencia, ella dijo sí a Dios. Ella dijo específicamente: “He aquí la esclava del Señor, hágase en mí según tu voluntad”.

El 1 de enero, la iglesia nos invita a reunirnos alrededor del altar sagrado, para celebrar la Santa Misa e invocar las oraciones de María por nuestra parroquia, nuestra Arquidiócesis y por el mundo. Comencemos el año con oración, adoración, recibiendo la Sagrada Eucaristía y diciéndole a María, nuestra Madre, “Ruega por nosotros”.

"Rejoice: The Lord is nigh." As Christmas draws near, the Church emphasizes the joy which should be in our hearts over all that the birth of our Savior means for us. The great joy of Christians is to see the day drawing nigh when the Lord will come again in His glory to lead them into His kingdom. The oft-repeated Veni("Come") of Advent is an echo not only of the prophets but also of the conclusion of the Apocalypse of St. John: "Come, Lord Jesus," the last words of the New Testament.

Today is known as Gaudete Sunday. The term Gaudete refers to the first word of the Entrance Antiphon, "Rejoice." Rose vestments are worn to emphasize our joy that Christmas is near, and we also light the rose candle on our Advent wreath.

"Alegraos: el Señor está cerca". Al acercarse la Navidad, la Iglesia enfatiza la alegría que debe haber en nuestros corazones por todo lo que significa para nosotros el nacimiento de nuestro Salvador. La gran alegría de los cristianos es ver que se acerca el día en que el Señor vendrá de nuevo en Su gloria para guiarlos a Su reino. El Veni ("Ven"), que se repite con frecuencia, del Adviento es un eco no solo de los profetas, sino también de la conclusión del Apocalipsis de San Juan: "Ven, Señor Jesús", las últimas palabras del Nuevo Testamento.

Hoy se conoce como el Domingo de Gaudete. El término Gaudete se refiere a la primera palabra de la Antífona de Entrada, "Alegraos". Se usan vestimentas rosas para enfatizar nuestra alegría por la cercanía de la Navidad, y también encendemos la vela rosa en nuestra corona de Adviento.

This Monday is we will celebrate the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception.  This is a Holy Day of Obligation for all Catholics.  Please make time to attend Mass. 

We will also celebrate the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe on December 12th.  We hope many in the parish will come to the evening Mass in the Church and dinner celebrated in the gym.  This is a day of great importance and joy for our parish and community and throughout the Archdiocese. 

This week we turn to Mary, our Blessed Mother.  Her example of faith, her dedication to God and her love for Jesus, we should model this in our lives.  Mary, Mother of Jesus, pray for us.  Guide us to Jesus.

 Inmaculada Concepción y Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe

Este lunes celebraremos la Solemnidad de la Inmaculada Concepción. Este es un día de precepto para todos los católicos. Por favor, tómese el tiempo para asistir a Misa.

También celebraremos la Fiesta de Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe el 12 de diciembre. Esperamos que muchos en la parroquia vengan a la Misa de la tarde en la Iglesia y a la cena celebrada en el gimnasio. Este es un día de gran importancia y alegría para nuestra parroquia y comunidad y en toda la Arquidiócesis.

Esta semana nos dirigimos a María, nuestra Santísima Madre. Su ejemplo de fe, su dedicación a Dios y su amor por Jesús, debemos modelarlo en nuestras vidas. María, Madre de Jesús, ruega por nosotros. Guíanos  a Jesús.

Imagine a cozy living room on a crisp December evening, where the flickering light of candles bathes everything in a warm and inviting glow. On a table in the center of the room, a wreath of greenery is adorned with four candles. The air is filled with anticipation as a family gathers around the wreath, embracing the Christmas season. The Catholic Advent wreath is a cherished tradition observed during the weeks leading up to Christmas. The Advent wreath serves as a spiritual compass on our journey in preparation for the nativity of our Lord.
It symbolizes hope, peace, joy and love through its four candles, each representing a week leading up to the birth of Christ.  I strongly encourage the use of the Advent Wreath in your homes.  Use it as a daily prayer for your families.  Use it as a reminder of God’s love.

Primer domingo de Adviento

Imagínese una acogedora sala de estar en una fresca noche de diciembre, donde la luz parpadeante de las velas baña todo con un brillo cálido y acogedor. Sobre una mesa en el centro de la habitación, una corona de vegetación está adornada con cuatro velas. El aire está lleno de anticipación mientras una familia se reúne alrededor de la corona, abrazando la temporada navideña. La corona de Adviento católica es una preciada tradición que se observa durante las semanas previas a la Navidad. La corona de Adviento sirve como una brújula espiritual en nuestro viaje en preparación para el nacimiento de nuestro Señor. Simboliza la esperanza, la paz, la alegría y el amor a través de sus cuatro velas, cada una de las cuales representa una semana previa al nacimiento de Cristo. Recomiendo encarecidamente el uso de la corona de Adviento en sus hogares. Úsela como una oración diaria por sus familias. Úsela como un recordatorio del amor de Dios.

Que tenga una bendecida temporada de Adviento.
