At the SEEK conference in January, Pope Leo asked the young people, what do you seek?  He answered saying, we must prefer Jesus in all things.  Our purpose is found in the person of Jesus Christ.  In the scriptures, it was often not enough for people to just be told about Jesus.  They went to find Him, to talk to Him, to be healed by Him and to know Him.  This must be true for us.  We need to go and encounter Jesus.  We do this in a particular way at the Mass and in the Eucharist.  Jesus is waiting to truly meet you.  Receive Jesus in the Eucharist!  Pray with Jesus in Adoration!  Don’t be satisfied with just hearing about Jesus.  Get to know Him personally.  Jesus is the way to true peace.

¿Qué buscas?

En la conferencia SEEK en enero, el Papa León preguntó a los jóvenes: ¿Qué buscan? Él mismo respondió: Debemos preferir a Jesús en todas las cosas. Nuestro propósito se encuentra en la persona de Jesucristo. En las Escrituras, a menudo no bastaba con que la gente simplemente oyera hablar de Jesús. Iban a buscarlo, a hablar con Él, a ser sanados por Él y a conocerlo. Esto debe ser cierto también para nosotros. Necesitamos ir al encuentro de Jesús. Lo hacemos de una manera especial en la Misa y en la Eucaristía. Jesús está esperando encontrarse contigo de verdad. ¡Recibe a Jesús en la Eucaristía! ¡Ora con Jesús en la Adoración! No te conformes con solo oír hablar de Jesús. Conócelo personalmente. Jesús es el camino hacia la verdadera paz.   

The Christian home is the first place where children consider the power of God and His love.  Many priests and religious say that they first learned to listen to God when praying at home with their families.  Parents, it is so important for you to encourage your children to consider the priesthood or consecrated life.  I can testify to the truth, being a priest is a wonderful life.  Priests are statistically the happiest individuals in the world.  We find great interior peace in serving the people of God.  Please parents, pray for your children and pray that we receive more religious vocations from our parish of St. Joseph in Norman, OK.  Our children need to be encouraged in making real commitments to God and His Church.  Pray with me that we have many vocations from St. Joseph Parish.

 El hogar cristiano es el primer lugar donde los niños contemplan el poder de Dios y su amor. Muchos sacerdotes y religiosos afirman que aprendieron a escuchar a Dios orando en casa con sus familias. Padres, es muy importante que animen a sus hijos a considerar el sacerdocio o la vida consagrada. Puedo dar fe de ello: ser sacerdote es una vida maravillosa. Estadísticamente, los sacerdotes somos las personas más felices del mundo. Encontramos una gran paz interior al servir al pueblo de Dios. Por favor, padres, oren por sus hijos y oren para que recibamos más vocaciones religiosas en nuestra parroquia de San José en Norman, Oklahoma. Nuestros hijos necesitan ser animados a asumir compromisos firmes con Dios y su Iglesia. Oren conmigo para que tengamos muchas vocaciones en la parroquia de San José.

Is prayer an ordinary part of your life?  Is prayer normal, or is it something foreign to you?  Today I want to encourage you to consider your life of prayer.  Prayer is an impulse of the heart toward the God who created us and loves us.  Jesus invites us to come to Him and He will give us rest.  Prayer is an intimate encounter of love with God that helps us to sustain a relationship with Him.  Prayer is never something we do alone, even when there is no one in the room.  It is always an encounter with the living God.  Jesus is alive and we need to know Him.  Make a commitment to daily prayer.  I hope to see you in the adoration chapel.  Pray together as a family.  Take a walk and pray the rosary.  Use technology like the Hallow App.  Let’s pray for each other.  God bless you.

La oración debe ser algo cotidiano

¿Es la oración una parte habitual de tu vida? ¿Es la oración algo normal para ti, o te resulta ajena? Hoy quiero animarte a reflexionar sobre tu vida de oración. La oración es un impulso del corazón hacia el Dios que nos creó y nos ama. Jesús nos invita a acercarnos a Él y Él nos dará descanso. La oración es un encuentro íntimo de amor con Dios que nos ayuda a mantener una relación con Él. La oración nunca es algo que hacemos solos, incluso cuando no hay nadie más presente. Siempre es un encuentro con el Dios vivo. Jesús está vivo y necesitamos conocerlo. Comprométete a orar a diario. Espero verte en la capilla de adoración. Oren juntos en familia. Salgan a caminar y recen el rosario. Utilicen la tecnología, como la aplicación Hallow. Oremos los unos por los otros. Que Dios los bendiga.

Jesus comes to the waters to be baptized.  He did not need baptism.  The reason He came to be baptized was to fulfill the prophecy of John when he said, “Prepare the Way for the Lord”.  Jesus sanctifies the waters of baptism for us.  He is baptized not for Himself, but for us.  We need Jesus to show us the way to the life-giving waters of baptism.  Baptism is where we begin our pilgrimage to the heavenly Father.  Baptism washes away original sin and every sin of our life.  Baptism is our spiritual adoption as Sons and Daughters of the heavenly Father.  In the Sacrament of Baptism, God claims us forever.  Today we give thanks for this great sacrament of our salvation where Jesus washes away our sin and gives us a place in the kingdom. 

Pray for an increase in conversions to the Catholic Faith and for all our OCIA members at St. Joseph Parish.

Fiesta del Bautismo del Señor

 Jesús se acerca a las aguas para ser bautizado. Él no necesitaba el bautismo. La razón por la que vino a ser bautizado fue para cumplir la profecía de Juan cuando dijo: «Preparen el camino del Señor». Jesús santifica las aguas del bautismo para nosotros. Él es bautizado no por sí mismo, sino por nosotros. Necesitamos que Jesús nos muestre el camino hacia las aguas vivificantes del bautismo. El bautismo es donde comienza nuestra peregrinación hacia el Padre celestial. El bautismo lava el pecado original y todos los pecados de nuestra vida. El bautismo es nuestra adopción espiritual como hijos e hijas del Padre celestial. En el sacramento del bautismo, Dios nos reclama para siempre. Hoy damos gracias por este gran sacramento de nuestra salvación, donde Jesús lava nuestros pecados y nos da un lugar en el reino.

Oremos por un aumento de las conversiones a la fe católica y por todos nuestros miembros del OCIA en la Parroquia de San José.

One way to understand this great Solemnity of the Epiphany, is to understand the meaning of the word.  In the Greek, Epiphany can mean, “to shine upon”.  For us, the light of Christ is shining upon the world.  This light brings salvation to every soul.  The Epiphany of our Lord is also an invitation to every believer.  We must be lights in the world.  When people meet us, they should meet Jesus.  People said this about Mother Theresa.  She was very ordinary in her appearance and her day-to-day work.  At the same time, she radiated the love of Jesus.  We need to radiate the Love of Jesus to the world.  On this great Feast of the Epiphany, may the light of Christ shine in your hearts. 

Pray for an increase in Vocations to the Priesthood this week.  God bless you all!

Solemnidad de la Epifanía de Nuestro Señor

 Una manera de comprender esta gran Solemnidad de la Epifanía es entendiendo el significado de la palabra. En griego, Epifanía significa «manifestarse», «brillar». Para nosotros, la luz de Cristo brilla sobre el mundo. Esta luz trae la salvación a cada alma. La Epifanía de nuestro Señor es también una invitación para cada creyente. Debemos ser luz en el mundo. Cuando las personas nos conozcan, deben ver a Jesús en nosotros. Esto se decía de la Madre Teresa. Era una persona muy sencilla en su apariencia y en su trabajo diario. Al mismo tiempo, irradiaba el amor de Jesús. Necesitamos irradiar el amor de Jesús al mundo. En esta gran Fiesta de la Epifanía, que la luz de Cristo brille en sus corazones.

Oremos esta semana por un aumento de las vocaciones al sacerdocio. ¡Que Dios los bendiga a todos!

On behalf of Fr. Grim, myself and our parish staff, we wish you all a very Merry Christmas.  We hope your Christmas Eve and Day were full of Joy.  Know of our prayers for all our families at St. Joseph parish.  We pray for all who are most in need of prayers, of peace in their hearts and of knowing Jesus, our Lord.  Jesus is born, He has come into the world, He is the Lamb of God and offers His life for us.  We turn to Bethlehem this Sunday after Christmas Day.  Traditionally, on this Sunday, we ask for the prayers of the Holy Family; Jesus, Mary and Joseph.  The faith and love of Mary and Joseph are great examples of our lives.  We need to trust in the will of God.  Our plans are good, the plan of God for us is better.  Jesus, help us to trust you, to serve you and to encounter your mercy.  Don’t take down your Christmas Trees!  We have a whole Christmas season to celebrate.  Jesus is here, He is with us, the Messiah has come to save the world.  Come celebrate mass with us on January 1, the Solemnity of Mary Mother of God, a Holy Day of Obligation.  We look forward to seeing you.

¡Feliz Fiesta de la Sagrada Familia!

 En nombre del Padre Grim, mío y de todo el personal de nuestra parroquia, les deseamos a todos una muy Feliz Navidad. Esperamos que la Nochebuena y el Día de Navidad hayan estado llenos de alegría. Tengan la seguridad de nuestras oraciones por todas las familias de la parroquia de San José. Oramos por todos aquellos que más necesitan oraciones, paz en sus corazones y conocer a Jesús, nuestro Señor. Jesús ha nacido, ha venido al mundo, Él es el Cordero de Dios y ofrece su vida por nosotros. Nos dirigimos a Belén este domingo después del Día de Navidad. Tradicionalmente, en este domingo, pedimos las oraciones de la Sagrada Familia: Jesús, María y José. La fe y el amor de María y José son grandes ejemplos para nuestras vidas. Necesitamos confiar en la voluntad de Dios. Nuestros planes son buenos, pero el plan de Dios para nosotros es aún mejor. Jesús, ayúdanos a confiar en ti, a servirte y a experimentar tu misericordia. ¡No quiten sus árboles de Navidad! Tenemos toda la temporada navideña para celebrar. Jesús está aquí, está con nosotros, el Mesías ha venido a salvar al mundo. Vengan a celebrar la misa con nosotros el 1 de enero, Solemnidad de María Madre de Dios, día de precepto. Esperamos verlos.

Master of both the light and the darkness, send your Holy Spirit upon our preparations for Christmas. We who have so much to do and seek quiet spaces to hear your voice each day, We who are anxious over many things look forward to your coming among us. We who are blessed in so many ways long for the complete joy of your kingdom. We whose hearts are heavy seek the joy of your presence. We are your people, walking in darkness, yet seeking the light. To you we say, "Come Lord Jesus!'

Cuarto domingo de Adviento Una oración de Adviento de Henri Nouwen

 Señor Jesús,

Dueño de la luz y de la oscuridad, envía tu Espíritu Santo sobre nuestros preparativos para la Navidad. Nosotros, que tenemos tantas cosas que hacer y buscamos momentos de quietud para escuchar tu voz cada día, nosotros, que estamos ansiosos por tantas cosas, anhelamos tu venida entre nosotros. Nosotros, que hemos sido bendecidos de tantas maneras, deseamos la alegría plena de tu reino. Nosotros, cuyos corazones están afligidos, buscamos el gozo de tu presencia. Somos tu pueblo, que camina en la oscuridad, pero busca la luz. A ti te decimos: "¡Ven, Señor Jesús!".

Amén.

This Sunday we ask the Lord to teach us how to remain with Him in prayer, to prepare our hearts for the coming Feast of Christmas and to help us Rejoice in His presence with adoration and praise.  Jesus loves us and wants us to seek Him in faith.  The Advent season is a time to meditate on the power of the Incarnation.  Come to adoration during these days of Advent.  Come to the sacrament of confession and experience the Mercy of Jesus.  Spend time with Jesus in the Scriptures, reflecting on the story of Christ’s birth.  Rejoice in the Lord, always. 

Let’s thank all the people who made our celebration of Our Lady of Guadalupe such a beautiful experience.  We have amazing volunteers and leaders at our parish.  Thank you for your time and talent.

El tercer domingo de Adviento es Domingo Gaudete; ¡Alégrense, el Señor está cerca!

Este domingo le pedimos al Señor que nos enseñe a permanecer con Él en oración, a preparar nuestros corazones para la próxima Fiesta de Navidad y a ayudarnos a regocijarnos en su presencia con adoración y alabanza. Jesús nos ama y quiere que lo busquemos con fe. El tiempo de Adviento es un momento para meditar en el poder de la Encarnación. Vengan a la adoración durante estos días de Adviento. Vengan al sacramento de la confesión y experimenten la Misericordia de Jesús. Pasen tiempo con Jesús en las Escrituras, reflexionando sobre la historia del nacimiento de Cristo. Regocíjense en el Señor, siempre.

Agradezcamos a todas las personas que hicieron de nuestra celebración de Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe una experiencia tan hermosa. Contamos con voluntarios y líderes maravillosos en nuestra parroquia. Gracias por su tiempo y talento.

Do you tend to skip Holy Days of Obligation?  Why not make a change during this Advent Season?  On Monday December 8th we celebrate the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception.  This is a Holy Day of Obligation for the Universal Church.  Come to mass and celebrate this beautiful feast of Our Lady.  Also, this Friday is the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe.  Come to the Church on Friday, December 12th, at 6:30pm to experience the beauty of the Mexican culture, celebration of the Mass and a delicious dinner.  This week ask our Blessed Mother to pray for us and help us to encounter daily the love of Jesus her Son.  Jesus, we trust in you.

La Semana de Nuestra Santísima Madre

 ¿Sueles saltarte los días de precepto? ¿Por qué no hacer un cambio durante este Adviento? El lunes 8 de diciembre celebramos la Solemnidad de la Inmaculada Concepción. Este es un día de precepto para la Iglesia universal. Ven a misa y celebra esta hermosa fiesta de Nuestra Señora. Además, este viernes es la festividad de Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe. Ven a la iglesia el viernes 12 de diciembre a las 6:30 p. m. para experimentar la belleza de la cultura mexicana, la celebración de la misa y una deliciosa cena. Esta semana, pídele a nuestra Santísima Madre que rece por nosotros y nos ayude a encontrar diariamente el amor de Jesús, su Hijo. Jesús, confiamos en ti.

The Advent season is a time to prepare and celebrate the birth of Jesus.  The mystery of the incarnation and the coming of Christ is foretold by St. John the Baptist.  He helped us to prepare a way for the Lord in our world and in our lives.  I encourage you to dive into the traditions of Advent.  Do you have an Advent Wreath?  Do you have an Advent Calendar?  Use a devotional book and pray the daily readings for Advent.  Spiritually prepare well for the great Season of Christmas.

On behalf of Fr. Grim and I, Happy Thanksgiving!  It is a joy to take time to pray, to have a meal and to give thanks for the many blessings of our lives.  This holiday helps us reflect on the many opportunities we have each day to turn to God in prayer and ask for His help.  It represents the truth that, even in times of suffering and temptation, in times of crisis and personal loss, and in times that are hard, we can still thank God for this life.  Jesus, we thank you for your divine and eternal love. 

Today we also celebrate the Feast of Christ the King.  Jesus is our Lord and our King.  He brings us peace, He conquers sin and death, and He lives forever on the throne of His kingdom in heaven.  Jesus, you are our King.  We thank you Lord, with all the angels, with all the saints in glory, with all the Apostles and Prophets, with Mary our Mother and Queen!  Praise be Jesus Christ, now and forever!

Happy Thanksgiving and Praise Be Jesus Christ the King of the Universe!

Gracias Jesús, Nuestro Señor y Rey

De parte del Padre Grim y mía, ¡Feliz Día de Acción de Gracias! Es una alegría dedicar tiempo a la oración, a compartir una comida y a dar gracias por las muchas bendiciones de nuestras vidas. Esta festividad nos ayuda a reflexionar sobre las muchas oportunidades que tenemos cada día para acudir a Dios en oración y pedirle su ayuda. Representa la verdad de que, incluso en tiempos de sufrimiento y tentación, en tiempos de crisis y pérdidas personales, y en tiempos difíciles, podemos agradecer a Dios por esta vida. Jesús, te damos gracias por tu amor divino y eterno.

Hoy también celebramos la Fiesta de Cristo Rey. Jesús es nuestro Señor y nuestro Rey. Él nos trae la paz, vence el pecado y la muerte, y vive para siempre en el trono de su reino en el cielo. Jesús, tú eres nuestro Rey. Te damos gracias, Señor, con todos los ángeles, con todos los santos en gloria, con todos los apóstoles y profetas, con María, nuestra Madre y Reina. ¡Alabado sea Jesucristo, ahora y por siempre!

I want to take this moment to thank the many people of our parish who make the Annual Thanksgiving Dinner possible.  It takes a large group of dedicated volunteers to prepare, set up and serve for this wonderful event.  We serve people from all over the Norman community.  It is a labor of love for many in our parish family.  Thank you, Lord for this opportunity each year to give thanks, to serve our neighbors and to once again turn to You in trust.  God bless you all!

La 103ª Cena de Acción de Gracias de San José

Quiero aprovechar este momento para agradecer a todas las personas de nuestra parroquia que hacen posible la Cena Anual de Acción de Gracias. Se necesita un gran grupo de voluntarios dedicados para preparar, organizar y servir en este maravilloso evento. Atendemos a personas de toda la comunidad de Norman. Es una labor que muchos miembros de nuestra familia parroquial realizan con mucho cariño. On Friday November 7th, through the imposition of hands by Archbishop Coakley, Deacon Brad and Deacon Tom were ordained to the Diaconate and received the sacrament of Holy Orders.  They are now permanent deacons for the Archdiocese of Oklahoma City, serving here at St. Joseph Parish.  They are part of a large community of permanent deacons in the Archdiocese serving the people in many different ways.  You might ask yourself, what is a permanent deacon and what do they do?  From the USCCB website, “All ordained ministers in the Church are called to the functions of Word, Sacrament, and Charity, but bishops, presbyters and deacons exercise these functions in various ways. As ministers of the Word, deacons proclaim the Gospel, preach, and teach in the name of the Church. As ministers of the Sacraments, deacons baptize, lead the faithful in prayer, witness marriages, and conduct wake and funeral services”.  Deacons assist their pastor and their bishop in the governing, sanctifying and teaching ministries of the Church and so help to guide souls to Jesus.  Lord, we pray today that you bless Deacons Tom and Brad.  Bless their wives, Ferrella March and Judy Forshee.  Bless their families who love them.  Bless them and help them to respond to the witness and call of Jesus who teaches us, “I have not come to be served, but to serve and to give my life as a ransom for many”.

El viernes 7 de noviembre, mediante la imposición de manos del Arzobispo Coakley, los diáconos Brad y Tom fueron ordenados al diaconado y recibieron el sacramento de la Orden Sagrada. Ahora son diáconos permanentes de la Arquidiócesis de Oklahoma City y sirven en la Parroquia de San José. Forman parte de una gran comunidad de diáconos permanentes en la Arquidiócesis que sirven al pueblo de muchas maneras diferentes. Quizás se pregunten: ¿qué es un diácono permanente y qué hace? Según el sitio web de la Conferencia de Obispos Católicos de los Estados Unidos (USCCB): “Todos los ministros ordenados en la Iglesia están llamados a las funciones de la Palabra, el Sacramento y la Caridad, pero los obispos, presbíteros y diáconos ejercen estas funciones de diversas maneras. Señor, oramos hoy para que bendigas a los diáconos Tom y Brad. Bendice a sus esposas, Ferrella March y Judy Forshee. Bendice a sus familias que los aman. Bendícelos y ayúdalos a responder al testimonio y al llamado de Jesús, quien nos enseña: “No he venido para ser servido, sino para servir y para dar mi vida en rescate por muchos”.

All Souls' Day is a sacred occasion set aside to remember and pray for the faithful departed. This day calls us to reflect on the mystery of death and the hope of eternal life, reminding us that our loved ones continue to live in the embrace of God. It is a time to honor our relatives and all souls in purgatory, offering prayers, masses, and deeds of charity. These acts of intercession help cleanse the soul of the departed and strengthen our own journey of faith.

Pray for the deceased members of our parish, those from our families and all souls who need our prayers.  Jesus, we trust in you.

El Día de los Difuntos es una ocasión sagrada dedicada a recordar y orar por los fieles difuntos. Este día nos invita a reflexionar sobre el misterio de la muerte y la esperanza de la vida eterna, recordándonos que nuestros seres queridos continúan viviendo en el abrazo de Dios. Es un momento para honrar a nuestros familiares y a todas las almas del purgatorio, ofreciendo oraciones, misas y obras de caridad. Estos actos de intercesión ayudan a purificar el alma de los difuntos y fortalecen nuestro propio camino de fe.

Oremos por los miembros fallecidos de nuestra parroquia, por los de nuestras familias y por todas las almas que necesitan nuestras oraciones. Jesús, confiamos en ti.

Pope Leo XIV recently lead a beautiful rosary prayer, calling upon Mary our Mother, with the intentions for peace in the world and for a greater love of our Blessed Mother.  We turn to her so that she can pray to Jesus for us.  We pray through her and ask her to lead our hearts to the Cross of Jesus her Son.  I strongly encourage you all to make the Rosary a daily prayer for you and your family.

Reflect with me on these words from Pope Leo XIV on Marian Spirituality:

“Brothers and sisters, Marian spirituality is at the service of the Gospel: it reveals its simplicity. Our affection for Mary of Nazareth leads us to join her in becoming disciples of Jesus. It teaches us to return to him and to meditate and ponder the events of our lives in which the Risen One still comes to us and calls us. Marian spirituality immerses us in the history upon which heaven opened. It helps us to see the proud being scattered in their conceit, the mighty being cast down from their thrones and the rich being sent away empty-handed. It impels us to fill the hungry with good things, to lift up the lowly, to remember God’s mercy and to trust in the power of his arm (cf. Lk 1:51-54). Jesus invites us to be part of his Kingdom, just as he asked Mary for her “yes,” which, once given, was renewed every day.”

Tiempo para un Jubileo Mariano

El Papa León XIV dirigió recientemente un hermoso rezo del rosario, invocando a María, nuestra Madre, con la intención de que haya paz en el mundo y un mayor amor a nuestra Santísima Madre. Nos dirigimos a ella para que pueda rezar a Jesús por nosotros. Oramos a través de ella y le pedimos que guíe nuestros corazones hacia la Cruz de Jesús, su Hijo. Los animó a todos a que hagan del Rosario una oración diaria por ustedes y sus familias.

Reflexionen conmigo sobre estas palabras del Papa León XIV sobre la Espiritualidad Mariana:

Hermanos y hermanas, la espiritualidad mariana está al servicio del Evangelio: revela su sencillez. Nuestro cariño por María de Nazaret nos lleva a unirnos a ella para convertirnos en discípulos de Jesús. Nos enseña a volver a él y a meditar y reflexionar sobre los acontecimientos de nuestra vida en los que el Resucitado sigue viniendo a nosotros y nos llama. La espiritualidad mariana nos sumerge en la historia sobre la que se abrió el cielo. Nos ayuda a ver a los soberbios dispersarse en su vanidad, a los poderosos derribados de sus tronos y a los ricos despedidos con las manos vacías. Nos impulsa a colmar de bienes a los hambrientos, a levantar a los humildes, a recordar la misericordia de Dios y a confiar en el poder de su brazo (cf. Lc 1,51-54). Jesús nos invita a ser parte de su Reino, tal como le pidió a María su «sí», que, una vez dado, se renovaba cada día.                

For St. John Paul II, the rosary was non-negotiable.  He prayed it daily, often and he said many times, “the rosary is my favorite prayer”.  For him, the rosary was a perfect path to contemplative prayer.  It not only helped him contemplate the mystery of each decade of the rosary, it also brought him into a more profound contemplation of Jesus Himself.  With the Rosary, through the prayers of Mary, we come to know the power and mercy of the Cross of Jesus and His love for the world.  Jesus saves the world and takes the time to think of each one of us.  He saves our souls and brings us into the joy of heaven.

We need to take time to contemplate the Love of Jesus through the prayers of the Rosary.  The Rosary helps bring silence to our life.  I love to sit in the adoration chapel and quietly pray each decade of the rosary.  Each Hail Mary, Our Father and Glory Be brings me closer to the heart of Jesus.  Make time to pray.  Make time to pray the rosary.  Make time to be quiet with Jesus in adoration so you can know the joy of heaven.  Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us.  Jesus, have mercy on us. 

El poder del Rosario y la Oración silenciosa

 Para San Juan Pablo II, el rosario era innegociable. Lo rezaba a diario, con frecuencia, y muchas veces decía: «El rosario es mi oración favorita». Para él, el rosario era un camino perfecto hacia la oración contemplativa. No solo le ayudaba a contemplar el misterio de cada decena del rosario, sino que también lo llevaba a una contemplación más profunda de Jesús mismo. Con el rosario, a través de las oraciones de María, llegamos a conocer el poder y la misericordia de la cruz de Jesús y su amor por el mundo. Jesús salva al mundo y se toma el tiempo para pensar en cada uno de nosotros. Salva nuestras almas y nos lleva a la alegría del cielo.

Necesitamos tomarnos un tiempo para contemplar el amor de Jesús a través de las oraciones del rosario. El rosario nos ayuda a traer silencio a nuestra vida. Me encanta sentarme en la capilla de adoración y rezar en silencio cada decena del rosario. Cada Ave María, Padre Nuestro y Gloria me acerca al corazón de Jesús. Dedica tiempo a orar. Dedica tiempo a rezar el rosario. Dedica tiempo a estar en silencio con Jesús en adoración para que puedas experimentar la alegría del cielo. Santa María, Madre de Dios, ruega por nosotros. Jesús, ten piedad de nosotros.                                          

This month of October is dedicated to our Lady of the Rosary.  Praying the rosary is a beautiful way to go to Jesus through the prayers and love of our Blessed Mother Mary.  I urge you to pray the rosary daily, or as often as you can, for peace in our world.  Pope Leo XIII said this about the rosary,

"The Rosary is the most excellent form of prayer and the most efficacious means of attaining eternal life. It is the remedy for all our evils, the root of all our blessings. There is no more excellent way of praying."

Este mes de octubre está dedicado a Nuestra Señora del Rosario. Rezar el rosario es una hermosa manera de acercarnos a Jesús a través de las oraciones y el amor de nuestra Santísima Madre María. Les animo a rezar el rosario a diario, o tan a menudo como puedan, por la paz en nuestro mundo. El Papa León XIII dijo esto sobre el rosario:

«El rosario es la forma más excelente de oración y el medio más eficaz para alcanzar la vida eterna. Es el remedio para todos nuestros males, la raíz de todas nuestras bendiciones. No hay forma más excelente de orar».                                                                   

The Church dedicates October to the work, prayers and proclamation of the need for all people to respect the dignity of human life from conception to natural death.  If you read the news, listen to the media or watch videos on what is happening in the world, it might be easy to conclude that Satan has a strong influence.  The evil one is manipulating the world and leading it toward death.  This is why St. John Paul II called for the societies of the world to beware of a culture of death.  We too easily choose to kill, to erase and to ignore the most vulnerable among us.  We destroy life so quickly.  We turn away from the needs of the poor.  We stop listening to the suffering of those who are lost and broken.  We forget about our sick and elderly dying in a home.  We suffer great darkness.  But there is always hope.  Jesus is the only light and the only way to answer every sin.  Jesus came so that we might have life.  That means every person needs Jesus.  Every soul need God.  Every person, in the womb, in the street, in our home, or in this church, is sacred, worthy and loved by God.  This month, pray for an end to abortion and all things that destroy the dignity of human life.  Mary, our mother, pray for us.  Jesus, we trust in you.

La Iglesia dedica octubre a la labor, la oración y la proclamación de la necesidad de que todas las personas respeten la dignidad de la vida humana desde la concepción hasta la muerte natural. Si lees las noticias, escuchas los medios de comunicación o ves videos sobre lo que sucede en el mundo, podría ser fácil concluir que Satanás tiene una fuerte influencia. El maligno está manipulando el mundo y llevándolo hacia la muerte. Por eso, San Juan Pablo II llamó a las sociedades del mundo a cuidarse de una cultura de muerte. Con demasiada facilidad elegimos matar, borrar e ignorar a los más vulnerables entre nosotros. Destruimos la vida con tanta rapidez. Nos alejamos de las necesidades de los pobres. Dejamos de escuchar el sufrimiento de los que están perdidos y destrozados. Nos olvidamos de nuestros enfermos y ancianos que mueren en un asilo. Sufrimos una gran oscuridad. Pero siempre hay esperanza. Jesús es la única luz y la única manera de responder a cada pecado. Jesús vino para que tuviéramos vida. Eso significa que cada persona necesita a Jesús. Cada alma necesita a Dios. Cada persona, en el vientre materno, en la calle, en nuestro hogar o en esta iglesia, es sagrada, digna y amada por Dios. Este mes, oremos por el fin del aborto y de todo aquello que destruye la dignidad de la vida humana. María, nuestra Madre, ruega por nosotros. Jesús, en ti confiamos.

St. John Paul II taught us so much about the power of prayer.  He taught us and he showed us through the example of himself at prayer.  He said this during his life as Pope, “If you really wish to follow Christ, if you want your love for him to grow and last, then you must be faithful to prayer. It is the key to the vitality of your life in Christ. Without prayer, your faith and love will die. If you are constant in daily prayer and in the Sunday celebration of Mass, your love for Jesus will increase. And your heart will know deep joy and peace, such as the world could never give.”

This week I encourage you to stop making so many excuses to not pray.  Take time each day to talk to God, to bring him your needs and to thank him for the gift of your life and your faith.  Jesus took time to go and pray to His heavenly Father.  We can give ourselves permission to take time for God, to talk to Him, to listen to Him, to be quiet in His presence and to receive His love.

La oración No es Negociable

San Juan Pablo II nos enseñó mucho sobre el poder de la oración. Él nos enseñó y nos mostró a través del ejemplo de si mismo orando. Dijo esto durante su vida como Papa: “Si tu realmente deseas seguir a Cristo, si tu quieres que tu amor por él crezca y por último, tu serás un creyente de la oración. Esta es la llave para vitalizar tu vida en Cristo. Sin la oración, tu fe y tu amor morirán. Si tu eres constante en la oración diaria y en la celebración de la misa dominical, tu amor por Jesus incrementará. Y tu corazón conocerá una profunda alegría y paz, como el mundo jamás podría dar.”

Esta semana yo te animo a parar de decir excusas para no rezar. Toma tiempo cada día para hablar con Dios, para contarle a él tus necesidades y para agradecerle a él por los obsequios de tu vida y de tu fe. Jesus tomó tiempo para ir y rezar a su Padre Celestial. Nosotros podemos darnos a nosotros mismos, el permiso para tener tiempo para Dios, para conversar con Él, para escucharlo a Él, para estar calmados en su presencia y para recibir Su amor.

This Sunday I want to strengthen my enthusiasm to everyone in the parish of the gift we have in our Perpetual Adoration Chapel!  I invite you to come and spend time with Jesus in adoration at least one or more times a week.  Can you come and spend one hour with Jesus in Eucharistic Adoration?  What are some of the spiritual benefits of Eucharistic Adoration?  St. Mother Theresa of Calcutta said this, “When we look at the Crucifix, you understand how much Jesus loved you then.  When you look at the Sacred Host, you understand how much Jesus loves you now.”  Eucharistic adoration increases our holiness and desire for God.   Adoration helps remove temptation and rely more of Jesus.  When we need to make a good examination of conscience, adoration helps us to know our sins and make a good confession.  There are so many more benefits, but I will close with this.  Adoration of Jesus in the Eucharist helps us to conform our hearts to be like the Heart of Jesus.  This gives us confidence to walk this life with hope in eternal life with God.  Come to Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament at our beautiful chapel.  Sign up for an Hour of Adoration, we need adorers always.  Jesus, we trust in you.

Adoración al Santísimo Sacramento

Este domingo quiero fortalecer mi entusiasmo por el don que tenemos en nuestra Capilla de Adoración Perpetua. Los invito a venir y pasar tiempo con Jesús en adoración al menos una o más veces por semana. ¿Pueden venir y pasar una hora con Jesús en Adoración Eucarística? ¿Cuáles son algunos de los beneficios espirituales de la Adoración Eucarística? Santa Madre Teresa de Calcuta dijo: «Cuando miramos al Crucifijo, comprendemos cuánto nos amó Jesús entonces. Cuando miramos la Sagrada Hostia, comprendemos cuánto nos ama Jesús ahora». La adoración eucarística aumenta nuestra santidad y nuestro deseo de Dios. Nos ayuda a alejar la tentación y a confiar más en Jesús. Cuando necesitamos hacer un buen examen de conciencia, nos ayuda a reconocer nuestros pecados y a confesarnos. Hay muchos más beneficios, pero terminaré con esto: la adoración a Jesús en la Eucaristía nos ayuda a conformar nuestros corazones para que sean como el Corazón de Jesús. Esto nos da la confianza para vivir esta vida con la esperanza de la vida eterna con Dios. Ven a la Adoración al Santísimo Sacramento en nuestra hermosa capilla.
